Next, locate the cold water inlet port. Also, find the hot water outlet port. With the help of regular plumbing tape, wrap both the ends of nipples.

Press your thumb against the first wrap. The tightness of the wrapping affects the strength of the fitting. Insert the nipples into the respective ports of the heater. Reexamine the setting to ensure the soundness of the setup.

Use more plumbing tape to cover one half of the unions. Next, attach the pipes to their corresponding heater ports. Remember that the top half of the unions should connect to the pipes.

Combine both the unions and finish the task by installing appropriate pipe fittings. Check the normal working of the unit by turning off the faucet valve.
