Normally, rubber roof is long lasting and stays for years but it also deteriorates like everything else. The depletion may be in the form of leaks, torn rubber materials or in any other form. The patching work requires the services of an expert so that the roof can gain its normal efficiency.

First thing you need to realize is that a rubber roof contains several layers. Sometimes during remodeling, the old rubber layer is not removed which leads to an extra layer. This signifies that the source of leakages in one room may be located in other room. Water travels between the layers and erupts out of a weak spot or puncture in the wall structure.

First of all, you must understand the structure of the roof. A rubber roof constitutes of several different layers. Often, root cause of the problem lies far from the leaks or moisture molds. These layers of rubber act as a passage for the movement of water. Consequently, water emerges out of an opening, void or weak area after traveling sideways or downwards.

Take a thorough look at your roof and probe the doubtful spots with a stick or tool. Avoid walking on those spots as they may collapse under pressure. You do not want to walk on such precarious spots.

When you are done with the initial inspection, look for the places that are wet and damp even though the vicinity is dry. Have a hard look at the segment from where the pipes or vents come out of the roof.

Once you have identified the troubled spots, it is time to fix them. First of all, clean-off the decayed area with benzene or other rubber cleaner solution and make it dry. Now, place a fair quantity of cement on the decayed area and place the rubber piece on the defected area. The rubber piece should overlap the hole so as to properly secure the hole.

Once the cement dries off, you can check the worthiness of the repair by testing it with a bit of water.

If the problem still persists then you can either repair the leaks again or you can hire a roofing contractor to patch the roof.
