Getting the kitchen cabinets clean and organized doesn’t have to be a hideous chore. It will just take some dedication and a few hours.

First of all, take care of all the normal cleaning routines, like getting the dishes into the dishwasher and putting away any clean ones. Then give the kitchen a good scrubbing. Grab some anti-bacterial cleaner and wash the counters, tables, cabinet faces and the walls. Take up the kitchen mats and shake them outside to remove dust and crumbs of food. The sweep and mop the floor.

Clean Your Kitchen

Take the mats and shake them outside to remove crumbs and dust. Then wash them in the washer on a gentle cycle. Hang to dry. Hanging outside is best if possible; if not, over a bathroom shower rack will be fine.

Empty all the cabinets and putting everything on your clean counter tops. Use your cleaning spray to wipe down the insides of the cupboards. Return everything to the cleaned cabinets. Put the glasses and mugs in rows to optimize space. Consider putting them in upside down. This will prevent dust from getting inside. But upside down glasses must be fully dried before they are put away. Otherwise, moisture will get stuck inside and you will get mold and mildew.

As for pots and pans: take them all out and clean those cabinets. Try to store these by stacking smaller ones into larger ones. Then place the lids nearby. The same can go for frying pans. The largest pan can go on the bottom and the others layered on top.

If possible, use a separate cabinet for baking pans and cake pans. Try to do as much stacking as possible here as well. The shapes will all be different so it won’t be as easy as with the pans. But try different combinations until you are utilizing the space the best way.

Big bulky items like pizza trays, roasting pans and cookie sheets are good to put underneath the stove in the storage drawer. This is better than keeping them inside the oven. Accidents happen and someone could turn the oven on to preheat not realizing there is anything in there. Plus, it is a nuisance to have to remove them every single time you want to bake.

Determine whether you are using the drawers as you should be. If you want to rearrange which drawers hold what, do that now. Spatulas and potholders are ideal in drawers closer to the stove. Larger drawers are good for gadgets, while a small one is good for silverware.

Once all the cabinets are neatly organized inside, it will be easier to keep the rest of the kitchen clean. You know where everything goes. It is just a matter of putting things back next time so you don’t have to go through this drill again!
