Installing Glass Block Windows in Bathrooms
You know that feeling when your bathroom could use some freshening up, and not with just some cleaning products. What about when your bathroom could use a bit more natural light or maybe even some more privacy? That’s when people think about installing glass block windows in bathrooms. They are a great addition to any bathroom.
There are many places to install glass block windows in a bathroom. Some people put them in their shower. Others install them in a place located near one of the bathroom walls or even right by the door. Glass block windows can be a great benefit to any bathroom.
Many people want to beautify their bathroom with these types of windows, but they oftentimes believe that the cost of having the windows installed outweighs the benefits. Unfortunately, many people just do not know that it takes little effort to install these windows themselves. Within a short amount of time and with little to know hard work, block window installation can be completed. Here’s how to do it.
First get a gist of what the size of your window opening is. This is one of the most important parts. Then you can choose to either put the glass blocks into that opening one by one or you can put the windows in just a window panel alone. You can also build the panel into a window system that is framed by either vinyl or metal. You’ll want to make sure you have a few supplies on hand.
You’ll want to have the glass block of course, a mortar, a trowel, a sponge, and some water. Take the trowel and put a layer of mortar on the floors surface, right in the spot where you will place the glass block. The layer of mortar should be about an inch thick. Make sure that the mortared section is as wide as the glass block. Next start to put the glass block on top of the mortar. Take the trowel, and put more mortar on the side of the starting block where you will place the next block.
After you repeat these steps again and again for each block, you will use the level to make sure that the blocks have been put level and evenly on the mortar. Each time you put a new block on, you will check that everything is level. When you are finished all of your rows of windows, you can use something like latex caulk to make sure everything is sealed, but the hardest part is over and you can rest assured that you have just installed beautiful windows that will keep your home beautiful for a very long time.
Of course you could also get your windows professionally installed and designed. http://www.AmericanGlassBlock.com has some of the best looking windows around.
