When you are mixing concrete, the first thing you must do is to keep everything ready. Right from the materials to the tools you need should be ready because you will hardly have the time to arrange once the process of mixing starts. You will only have 30 to 45 minutes to transfer and level the concrete. You have to be very calculated about the quantity and proportion of the mixing that you need. Once you are done with all these, you can begin mixing.

Factors responsible for quality of the concrete

- One of the major factors that decide the strength of concrete is the mixture quality. The right amount of water along with the materials is the key to a good quality concrete mixture.
- Another important factor is the weather condition in which the concrete is mixed and used. If the weather is hot and windy, then you have to keep the material cool by either covering it or cooling the water using ice cubes. Again, if the weather is too cold, you have to protect the mixture with a covering to prevent it from freezing. It is generally suggested to mix the concrete in humid and cool weather to produce rock solid surfaces.

- The amount of water also determines the quality of the concrete. Higher quantity of water weakens the cement paste. Water in the concrete improves the flexural strength, lessens the permeability and increases its resistance to weathering, cracking and shrinkage.

How to mix the concrete

When you are using premixed bags and mixing in a cement mixer, you must add half of the water to your bath size first. Put the material from the container into the mixer. This is a very handy technique and is easy to clean as well. But if you are not using premixed bags, then always use the sand and then the cement and lime. This technique will help you atop the lighter materials from quoting the sides. Never add too much water.

After mixing procedures

The discharge from the mixer should always be faster because faster discharge improves the productivity of the concrete. You should never allow the mixture to solidify inside the drum itself. When the mixture is removed, the inside of the drum should be quickly washed away.

Mixing in cement mixers is always easy than done manually. It produces an output with uniform texture. In most cases, an electric cement mixer is the best option to go for as it is cheap and widely available.
