The most common problem is that, although the dryer spins but, no heat is produced. This could be due to many reasons. Firstly, check the fuse for any disconnections as it could be bad. Replace it, if you find it so. If not, check the temperature switch using the VOM. You can do this setting the VOM or the testing meter to RX1. Now, touch the probes of the meter leads to the switch terminals. If meter needle deflects from zero to infinity or vice versa, the switch is alright. Otherwise, the temperature switch is bad, get is replaced.

At last, check the thermostat. Keep the meter to RX1. Press the testing probes to the thermostat terminals. Indicating 0 in the meter scale means the thermostat is also fine, else replace the thermostat. Then, inspect the heating coils as these could be the one creating problem. Touch the probes to the coils and note the meter readings. For 0, get your coils replaced.

Excessive heating up of the dryer should not be overlooked as it can be dangerous to work this way. Thermostat as well as the heating coils need to be examined. Follow the same steps as stated above.

Blocking in the lint trap or in the vent located at the outside of the house can result into over heating of the dryer. Ignoring it, can lead to extreme disaster as this is the sign of carbon monoxide in the house.

If the dryer doesn’t work at all, firstly check the check the voltage at the outlet. If the voltage is up to mark, may be the thermostat or the timer could be bad. Check them as instructed above.
