Well-designed roof terrace provides an escape that a ground floor deck can’t provide. Such terraces in cities provide the views and a respite from the pollution.

Now, starting from the scratches, you can use a regular table, chairs and sun umbrella to transform your plain roof to a designer terrace. Expand your living space and create clam and comfortable area. You can also use extra elements to design your rooftop terrace.

Beautify Your Roof Terrace

Check your roof if it has uneven spots or not. Repair the major flaws by concealing them with plants or furniture. Deck the entire roof or just a smaller portion and naturalize the rest. If you do not want to deck it then tile it and seal it with water-proof grout.

Install lighting in the area taking into account the serenity of the place. Use focus spotlights on the parts that you want to make the center of attraction. If you want to barbecue at night then provide lighting for the cooking area also.

Prepare your terrace for the chilly nights by accommodating heaters, fire bowls etc. Provide pest-control with available products in market such as insect-repelling foliage, pesticides etc. Marigold and lavender serve as good plant insect repelling foliages.

You can also add a small water feature on your terrace. Be careful in doing so because water is heavy and you should not do anything large if your terrace cannot support it. A good solution for this could be a stone basin set with aquatic plants.

It is also important to conceal your designed terrace from the view of the neighbors. You can do so by bringing in the lumbers of appropriate size. Install a lattice or mesh in place and let the lumbers attach to the sides of the lattice. Make sure that the lumbers are at least 1 foot taller than the underlying lattice. Place the base of the lumber ends into the flower pots and fill them up with dirt and soil.

You can render finishing touch to the entire design by making way for a sun sail. Moreover, you can place a strong fabric and tie eyelets on its corners to enhance the attractive design of your terrace.
