Connect the trap to the bottom of the waste outlet on the bathtub by winding the thread of the waste outlet with silicone mastic or PTFE tape, and screw on the trap to the outlet. Connect the bottom of the overflow tube in a similar manner.

The bath should now be ready to be fitted in its final position.

Removing Old Taps
If you need to replace old taps with new ones as a part of your installation, then the first thing you should do is disconnect the water supply. After doing so, turn on the taps to drain any water remaining in the system. The process of removing the existing taps can be quite problematic due to the restricted access that is often the case.

Use a basin wrench (crowsfoot spanner) or a tap tool to undo the nut that connects the supply pipes to the taps. Have a cloth ready for the remaining water that will come from the pipes. Once the supply pipes have been removed, use the same tool to loosen the nut that holds the taps onto the bath/basin. You will need to stop the single taps from turning during this process. Once the taps have been removed, the holes in the bath/basin will have to be cleaned of any old sealing compound.

Before moving on to fit the new taps, compare the pipe connections on the old taps to the new taps. If the old taps are longer than the new taps, then a shank adapter is required for the new taps to fit.

Installing the Bathtub

Using the two wooden boards under its feet, place the bathtub in the required position. The wooden boards are helpful in evenly spreading the weight of the bathtub over the area of the boards instead of focusing all the weight onto four small points.

The next goal is to ensure that the bathtub is leveled all round. This can be achieved by checking the spirit level and adjusting the feet on the bathtub until the spirit level reads level.

To install taps, fit the bottom of the furthest flexible tap connector to the appropriate supply pipe by making a compression join; then do the same for the other tap.

Switch on the water supply and check all joints and new pipework for leaks and tighten them if necessary. Fill the bathtub and also check the overflow outlet and the normal outlet for leaks.

Finally, fix the bath paneling as described in the manufacturer’s instruction manual.

Tiling and sealing around the bathtub should wait until the bathtub has been used at least once as this will settle it into its final position.

Fitting New Taps

Once the tap is securely in place, the supply pipes can be connected to the tails of the taps. The taps can either be connected by using corrugated copper piping or with normal tap connectors. The former type should be connected to the tap ends first, tightening only by hand. The supply pipes can later be connected to the other end. Tighten both ends with a spanner after both ends have been connected.

Tiling Around the Bathtub
In the area where the bath meets the tile, it is necessary to seal the joins with a silicone rubber caulking. This is important as the fitting can move enough to crack a rigid seal, causing the water to penetrate the wall between the bath and the tiling, leading to complications with dampness and possible leaks to the ceiling below.

You can choose from a variety of coloured sealants to blend in your fixtures and fittings. They are sold in tubes and cartridges, and are capable of sealing gaps up to a width of 3mm (1/8 inch). If you have a larger gap to fill, you can fill it with twists of soaked newspaper or soft rope. Mix your materials and spread them over the damaged area and coat with topping sand. This repair will be complete in about an hour.

In case of a large pothole you can use cold patch or FloMix. Cold patches must be applied gradually (2″ patches at a time) and repeatedly tamped to avoid the formation of air pockets. If you are unable to tamp the repair, FloMix can be mixed simply to fill the pothole. It does not need any special equipment for installation and provides a long-lasting asphalt driveway repair.

When first installed, asphalt driveways should be poured over a base of crushed stone, which is placed either on undisturbed grade, or on fill soil that has been mechanically compacted. When driveways sink, it is often because the underlying surface was not properly compacted, or because the fill dirt contains debris (such as tree stumps or vegetation) that are decomposing and collapsing underground. There are other less common causes such as erosion and undermining of the soil bed due to improper rainwater drainage, broken pipes, unknown underground water source, sinkholes, marshland, expansive soil, seismic disturbances or even volcanic activity.

If your home is new and the damage to your asphalt driveway repair is significant, contact your builder. Improper compaction of the driveway subsoil is an issue that causes these problems and should be covered under your home’s warranty. If you suspect a broken buried line or pipe could be adding to your problem contact your utility company, or dial 811 for a free identification of buried lines and cables. Getting a home inspection prior to buying a home seems like a no brainer today but you would be amazed at how many people just take a Realtor’s word for things. I have seen and heard it over and over where people say “But the Realtor said…” Yup, and if it is not in writing it is just that, words. A Realtor works for the seller, not you. They get paid when they make a sale. Of course they are nice. Would you buy from a nasty person? Of course not. I am not saying all Realtors are mis-leading but in many cases, they just don’t know. They are not builders or engineers or architects or inspectors. They are salespersons. You take a car to a mechanic before you buy it, why not take your house to a professional home inspector? There are out there today many great home inspection companies to choose from. Here is a hint, do not use the one the Realtor suggested. Use one not associated in any way with either the seller or Realtor. You will get a better quality, unbiased inspection that way.

A home inspector should be able to perform the inspection in a few hours time. The inspector will look into any accessible space but will not cut open walls for instance. If it is plain sight, the inspector should see it. Generally inspectors if they feel something is awry in a concealed space, will say so and put it on their report for you to check that item further.

They will start the inspection with the homes exterior to check things like roofing, gutters, foundation walls, general site grading, paint condition, windows, cracked driveway surfaces and so on.

Millions of homes have sump pumps and it will not deter a mortgage lender if the pump(s) and related piping are in working order.

Any good, independent inspector, will provide you with a well written report within a day or so.

Expect to pay him when he presents the report. He has no vested interest in whether you buy the home or not so his opinion should be honest and straightforward. He gets paid upfront no matter what your decision is in the end. Some inspection companies will provide a general values for repairs but always check with a local contractor before making a decision whether to buy or not. You want no surprises after you buy the home.

Building your own bar is cheaper when compared to hiring a contractor for the job. It is an easy job, but will require enough time to finish successfully. When constructing a bar follow the following easy steps:

Step 1: design – after deciding the location of your bar, go online and research bar designs. Get pictures. Get ideas. Draft your own design that fits your style.

Step 2: materials- list all the materials needed for the project. The materials normally include saws, screws, glue and clamps. For the frame, purchase 8 – 2 by 4 pieces of wood with length determined by the bar size. For the structure and the bar top, purchase either plywood, vinyl, leather or wood planks. For the bar railing, purchase molding of a very distinguishing size. You might need more material than what is listed here depending on your design. But, make sure you purchase beer taps for the beer lovers.

Step 3: frame building – use the 2×4 pieces of wood, glue and wood screws. For a standard bar, the box should be 108 inches by 42 inches built using 6 – 38 inch and 2 – 108 inch 2×4s. A 108 inch 2×4 is added to offer support for the lower counter 21 inches from the bottom. Screw it on the inside of the frame.

Build the sides using 2 – 38 inch, 2 – 18 inch, and 1 – 14 inch 2×4s. The 14 inch 2X4 will offer support for the lower counter and is attached between the 38 inch vertical supports 21 inches from the bottom. Build two sides in the same fashion.

Build the back using 1 – 100 inch, 2 – 36 inch, 2 – 34 inch and 2 – 28 inch 2×4s. The 100 inch 2X4 will add support at the top with the two 36 inch 2X4s offering bottom support for the two end shelving units. The 34 inch 2X4 will offer vertical supports for the gap in the middle and the 28 inch 2X4s will offer support for the lower counter 21 inches from the bottom. Finally, stand the front 108 inch by 42 inch frame up and attach the sides. Assemble the back using above specifications.

Step 4: surface – add surface using plywood, then cover using whatever materials you purchased for your design. For the front, use several pieces of plywood that equal 108 inches by 42 inches. The sides will require a 42 by 18 inch piece of plywood for each side. The back can be left open after you build the shelving. But, you can also purchase doors from your local hardware store to sharpen your bar up a bit.

Step 5: top, rail and cover – for the base of the top, cut plywood so that you can cover the 108 inch by 18 inch surface. Then, cover using countertop surface, high quality wood or wood planks. The molding will cover the ugly gaps and edges. Cover the front and sides of your bar with vinyl, leather or whatever surface you purchased.

Step 6: finish – Applying lacquer to wood makes for a great finish. But according to the materials you used, you can either leave the countertop the way it is if it’s marble or granite. Paint it if you simply used went with plywood. The bar top should be placed in the center the bar and all that takes is drilling a hole for the bar tap to fit through. Install track lighting and add some stools. You are finished my friend.

Of course, you could add a foot rest around the bottom of the bar. Hang some beer signs and mirrors. Run television in from your cable or satellite installation and you’re in business.
