Since people only want the best in life, they resort to various Chinese beliefs like feng shui just to attract positive energy. Same applies when remodeling your house, principles governing placement of furniture, color harmony, and elements are incorporated to make the dwelling place more conducive.

Feng shui is a Chinese belief of beautifying a place, be it a residence or a building. Its purpose is focused on receiving positive energy by attracting good fortune and health in one’s life. It utilizes certain instruments such as magnetic compass and bagua in defining correlation between the solar system and environment. It aims to balance a place and the forces of nature. Therefore when remodeling your home, make sure you apply feng shui principles, which are as follows:

Play around with color to add harmony in your home

One principle feng shui experts use is the color harmony. Various colors correspond to the 5 elements in Chinese astrology namely: fire, earth, water, wood, and metal. Each area in life such as marriage, career, health, and travel is also represented by specific colors. Depending on which area you want to give emphasis, the color of choice must not be contradictory. When doing home renovation, if you want to ensure good health for your family, the dominant colors should include brown and green.

Put your kitchen out of sight

Kitchen represents food, the ultimate source of sustenance or is equivalent to wealth. Therefore, it should be positioned at the center of the house, just as the heart is located at the center of the body. It should be in a place where it can’t be easily seen by visitors. As much as possible, never place it near any access point as the nourishment may leak out of the house.

Flaunt a reflector

Since kitchen means wealth, Chinese consultants would advise to put something that creates reflection. Its purpose is to multiply prosperity through the replica produced. It can be in the form of a mirror, stainless utensils, or anything that replicates an image.

Tap better source of lighting

The Chinese system we are talking about involves utilization of energy; and light is definitely the ultimate source of energy. Therefore, never take lighting for granted as this greatly influences the overall quality of your life. Monotonous brightness may cause boredom and stress while, wide array of light spectrum encourages creativity, enthusiasm, and happiness. Do not just go for plain, white light; instead try diverse light colors and intensities. The more shades of light present at home, the more drama it creates making your life more meaningful.

Counteract wealth drain in your bathroom

It is obvious that water is the prevailing element in the bathroom. Regular flushing is expected; therefore, it has to be counteracted because water is wealth. This is possible by placing earth element such as fresh flowers or vessel of pebbles directly above the toilet.

Although this belief contributes somehow in the quality of life of many people; however, this does not always promise a positive return. Hard work still plays a great role in creating your future.

Tips for remodeling your own sunroom are the following: prepare the space for brand new paint, paint the actual sunroom, hang curtains, put a carpet, beautify the sunroom, set up lighting fixtures, and set furniture.

Sunrooms are perfect locations in a house where you can take advantage of the beautiful back garden you have in your backyard or simply to bathe in the beautiful light of nature. However, in case you have already grown fed up with your existing sunroom and have not used it for its intended purpose for a while , you might like to upgrade it to get inspired to use and relish the room once again.

Prepare the space for brand new paint

The first thing you have to do if you choose to redesign the sunroom additions to your house is obtain a preparatory coat or perhaps a primer. Employ this paint in the entire room to get ready the walls of the sunroom for brand new paint, and also to have a thoroughly clean slate that you can work with. In case the present color of your sunroom is dark, apply 2 coats of the primer to make sure that none of the dark colour below will demonstrate through the new paint color. Allow the primer dry for about 12 hours before you begin applying the new paint.

Paint the sunroom

Select a color that you want and color the space with it. For example, if you dream of a seaside escape, color the wall surfaces of the sunroom a fascinating shade of blue and apply white paint to the ceiling and trim. To be sure that there is standard coverage in the entire room, employ two coats of paint on the walls.

Hang curtains

If you need to have draperies, then go ahead and hang them up. Nonetheless, you can even prefer to have blank windows because sunrooms are intended to allow sunlight inside the space. If you are planning with a seashore style, then use linens or perhaps cloth in a white color that are also light-weight.

Include a rug

Have a rug positioned on the bottom in your sunroom to make it appear more enticing, and also more comfortable for everyone in the house and for any guests you may have. Put a rug under a reading chaise or the coffee desk.

Decorate your sunroom

Set decorative accessorites in the sunroom such as wall arts, candle lights, vases, or designed décor. In case you’re using the seashore motif, apply decorations that look natural like a piece of driftwood, coral, starfish, seashells, or any other marine items. Place these ornaments on tables, suspended racks, bookshelves, or perhaps the fire place mantle.

Put up lighting fixtures within the room

Put in lighting fixtures within the room. Go with a floor lamp which you could put next to a reading chair. You may also use a chrome or pewter fitting hung in the ceiling in the center of the room. Select one which allows for the illumination of the light to be modified, so that you can dim the room’s light based on your choice.

Place home furniture

Use a few pieces of furniture positioned in the room. These will make the room much more appealing; nonetheless, be cautious never to overcrowd by utilizing too much home furniture. Put in a few chairs that can be used for amusing or reading, as well as coffee or side dining tables or a small sofa. Pick out furniture pieces which have storage, like shelves or drawers, so you have a location to keep coffee table guides or just to conceal small items and keep them from creating clutter in the room.

There are a variety of styles online for sunrooms that you can select from if you still have not decided which design you desire. If you already have a specific category in mind, you can also browse for different designs under that category.

Installing a bathtub isn’t exactly rocket science, but it does require solid plumbing, carpentry, and sometimes, tiling skills. Replacing an old bathtub with a new one is also a moderately difficult project. If the old tub is readily accessible, the project can move speedily; if you have to open a wall to remove the old tub and position the new bathtub, the task is much harder. In either case, the project is within a home handyman’s skills, although you will need a helper to move out the old tub and set in the new one. Make sure you have qualified yourself for the job and are comfortable attempting it. Rather than hiring a contractor to take over a halfway-completed project, it is better to consider employing one before you begin. Chances are you may need a professional plumber to make tube connections.

This article will help you install a new bathtub in your bathroom if you have already bought a new tub and don’t need to change the arrangement of your previous water supply pipes.

Your tools and material checklist should comprise the following:

New Bathtub

Hammer

Pipe Wrenches

Prybar

Safety Glasses

Level

Pliers

Adjustable Wrench

Putty Knife

Screwdriver

Cold Chisel

Tape Measure

Pipe Caps

Preparing for the Installation

Firstly, the supporting frame supplied with the bath should be fitted (if required) according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Next, fit the taps or mixer to the bathtub. When fitting the tap block, it is important to make sure that if the tap comes with a plastic washer, it is fitted between the bath and the taps. On a plastic bath, it is also sensible to fit a supporting plate under the taps unit to prevent strain on the bathtub.

Fit the flexible tap connectors to the bottom of the two taps using 2 nuts and olives (sometimes supplied with the tub).

Fit the plug-hole outlet by smearing mastic filler round the sink outlet hole, and then pass the outlet through the hole in the bath. Use the nut supplied by the manufacturer to fit the plug-hole. Examine the plug-hole outlet for an inlet on the side for the overflow pipe.

Next, fit the end of the flexible overflow pipe to the overflow outlet. After that, screw the pipe to the overflow face which should be fitted inside the bath. Make sure you use all of the supplied washers.

Connect the trap to the bottom of the waste outlet on the bathtub by winding the thread of the waste outlet with silicone mastic or PTFE tape, and screw on the trap to the outlet. Connect the bottom of the overflow tube in a similar manner.

The bath should now be ready to be fitted in its final position.

Removing Old Taps
If you need to replace old taps with new ones as a part of your installation, then the first thing you should do is disconnect the water supply. After doing so, turn on the taps to drain any water remaining in the system. The process of removing the existing taps can be quite problematic due to the restricted access that is often the case.

Use a basin wrench (crowsfoot spanner) or a tap tool to undo the nut that connects the supply pipes to the taps. Have a cloth ready for the remaining water that will come from the pipes. Once the supply pipes have been removed, use the same tool to loosen the nut that holds the taps onto the bath/basin. You will need to stop the single taps from turning during this process. Once the taps have been removed, the holes in the bath/basin will have to be cleaned of any old sealing compound.

Before moving on to fit the new taps, compare the pipe connections on the old taps to the new taps. If the old taps are longer than the new taps, then a shank adapter is required for the new taps to fit.

Installing the Bathtub

Using the two wooden boards under its feet, place the bathtub in the required position. The wooden boards are helpful in evenly spreading the weight of the bathtub over the area of the boards instead of focusing all the weight onto four small points.

The next goal is to ensure that the bathtub is leveled all round. This can be achieved by checking the spirit level and adjusting the feet on the bathtub until the spirit level reads level.

To install taps, fit the bottom of the furthest flexible tap connector to the appropriate supply pipe by making a compression join; then do the same for the other tap.

Switch on the water supply and check all joints and new pipework for leaks and tighten them if necessary. Fill the bathtub and also check the overflow outlet and the normal outlet for leaks.

Finally, fix the bath paneling as described in the manufacturer’s instruction manual.

Tiling and sealing around the bathtub should wait until the bathtub has been used at least once as this will settle it into its final position.

Fitting New Taps
If the tails of the new taps are plastic, then you will need a plastic connector to prevent damage to the thread. One end of the connector fits on the plastic tail of the tap and the other end provides a connection to the existent supply pipes.

If you need to fit a monobloc, then you will require reducing couplers, which connects the 10mm pipe of the monobloc to the standard 15mm supply pipe.

Next, position the tap in the mounting hole in the bath/basin ensuring that the washers are in place between the tap and the sink. Secure the tap in place with the manufacturer provided backnut. Once the tap is securely in place, the supply pipes can be connected to the tails of the taps. The taps can either be connected by using corrugated copper piping or with normal tap connectors. The former type should be connected to the tap ends first, tightening only by hand. The supply pipes can later be connected to the other end. Tighten both ends with a spanner after both ends have been connected.

Tiling Around the Bathtub
In the area where the bath meets the tile, it is necessary to seal the joins with a silicone rubber caulking. This is important as the fitting can move enough to crack a rigid seal, causing the water to penetrate the wall between the bath and the tiling, leading to complications with dampness and possible leaks to the ceiling below.

You can choose from a variety of coloured sealants to blend in your fixtures and fittings. They are sold in tubes and cartridges, and are capable of sealing gaps up to a width of 3mm (1/8 inch). If you have a larger gap to fill, you can fill it with twists of soaked newspaper or soft rope. Remember to always fill the bathtub with water before sealing, to allow for the movement experienced when the tub is in use. The sealant can crack fairly early if you do not take into account this movement before sealing.

Alternatively, ceramic coving or quadrant tiles can be used to edge the bath or shower tray. Plastic strips of coving, which are easy to use and cut to size, are also easily available on the market. It is advisable to fit the tiles using water-resistant or waterproof adhesive and grout.

Procedures in making a four-season sunroom include the following: acquiring a spending budget, picking out the porch’s style and design, speaking to a sunroom manufacturer or service provider, picking a sunroom, obtaining funding for your own porch, setting a date to set up your sunroom, and examining the licenses.

One technique to add value and also attractiveness to your home is to build a four-season sunroom. The guidelines are quite easy, and you could turn an existing porch or perhaps construct a brand new one from scratch.

Obtain a budget

The first thing you must do after you have decided to construct a four-season porch is to obtain the budget for it. Including porches and also sunrooms usually costs more money compared to just making a typical gazebo to your house. Anticipate cashing out roughly 15,000 to 30,000 US dollars.

Select the porch’s style

Think of ideas on how you want your sunroom to look like. There are various designs you could select from for your four-season porch. The nice thing about a four-season sunroom is it enables you to enjoy the room no matter what time of the year. It features glass wall space and ceilings to allow day light in, so you’re able to save a lot of electrical energy. You could also include the things which you wish into your sunroom. If you’re a seashore enthusiast, you can choose to have a beach-inspired or perhaps seaside four-season sunroom. Some other designs also involve cottage-style, French-country, hacienda garden, and the conventional sunrooms. In the meantime, the sizes of these types of sunrooms also vary from small structures the same as gazebos, to higher ceilings just like those of cathedrals. The decision on the type of sunroom design and style you should have depends upon the area, size of your home, along with the budget that you’ve for the task.

Speak to a sunroom maker or perhaps contractor

Talk to a sunroom service provider or maker to go over the actual plans you might have. There are lots of producers for various forms of four-season porches, and also other similar items like screened porch. The authorized dealers and also installers for these manufacturers are located all throughout America.

Choose a sunroom

Once you have decided which manufacturer you wish to get your sunroom from, pick the porch you want which will answer your preferences, as well as match the façade of your house. Usually, these types of makers have a lot of designs in their particular catalogs.

Get financing for your porch

In case the cash you’ve on hand is not sufficient, you can consider getting funding for your own porch. Many companies help their customers in financing their particular sunroom by referring dependable loan providers. However, you may also think about considering a house equity loan, or perhaps a credit line to cover for the price in building your sunroom.

Set to start dating to setup your own sunroom

Set to start dating in which you wish your own sunroom to be setup. It will require only a short amount of time for the entire framework to be installed after having put the cornerstone of your sunroom. The lengthiest moment for a four-season sunroom to be finished would be under a couple of weeks.

Examine the permits

It’s imperative that you check whether or not the contractors were able to obtain the essential permit for the set up of your sunroom, and request to have a duplicate of these files. Licences will help you to sell your property quickly later on, as opposed to those without these required documents.

If you’re a DIY kind of individual, you could only develop the sunroom on your own. All you should do is order the kit from the maker and have it sent to your own house. Just make sure that you really know what you are planning to do before starting on the installation.

Planning a home renovation project can be very stressful so it’s important to know a few tips before starting one.

Whether you’re re-doing your kitchen, enlarging your master bedroom, updating a bathroom or adding a garage there are many things you need to know to make your project run smoothly and create a peaceful experience for yourself.

So before the renovation begins take note to these tips. These tips will help turn your vision into a reality!

Tip One: Evaluate Your Needs – It’s important to know what you want and what the needs of your family are before getting started.

Tip Two:Asses Your Situation- Get a pad and pen and walk through each room making notes of the improvements you’d like to see happen. Then take that list and prioritize your notes and then prioritize the rooms that need the most work and attention. This will give you your starting point.

Tip Three:Start a Design Notebook – It’s important to know the look and feel you’d like for your renovation. What materials and finishes are available, what designs inspire you and what doesn’t, it’s imperative to know both. Gathering information from magazines and websites will be helpful.

Tip Four: Write a Wish List – List everything that you want; the look, the feel, the color, the concept. Don’t worry about the price at this point because many “looks” can be created on your budget. Just get the concept on paper. Writing this list can help you organize your thoughts.

Tip Five: Plan Ahead – It’s important to have a plan and follow it. This will prevent you from wasting time and money. Knowing your budget, your wants and needs in advance is the key to a successful renovation project.

Tip Six: Hire a Professional Interior Designer – hiring a professional will save you a great deal of time and money. A design professional can be a great asset to your project because they will assist you with your lists, goals, budget and overall plan. They can really relieve some of the stresses associated with planning a renovation project.

Tip Seven: Hire a Licensed General Contractor- work with a company that is dependable, has integrity and provides high quality workmanship. Be sure to hire a company that will fit your needs and expectations…some times when hiring large firms it can cost you more money because of their high overhead expenses. And also they may be too large to give you the “attention” you desire and deserve. Hiring a professional General Contractor will also give you peach of mind because they know all of the building and safety codes, they will be able to obtain all the necessary permits, they’ll be in charge of the scheduling and hiring all necessary subcontractors… and in return you won’t have to worry about a thing!

Having a nice looking bathroom is hard to achieve when you don’t have enough money coming in. The reality is, a lot of homeowners can’t afford to make their houses beautiful, especially when they have bills and mortgages to pay. It also goes the same for people who are trying to sell it in the future, it’s just really hard to raise the extra fund just to redecorate the bathroom. However, there are few ways that you can still make your bathroom nicer without spending too much. Giving your bathroom a whole new look is a great way to make your house look like more of a home and even help get its value increased. So in this article, we shall look at some options to jazz up your bathroom without making you bankrupt.

When doing up your bathroom, you don’t have to be pulling out your sink and bath-tub and replacing them with fancy new ones. If you take a look around your bathroom, you will notice that you are probably lacking in the accessories department. Getting nice looking accessories for your bathroom is also a great way to make it look fresh and modern without spending a fortune. A lot of companies are now producing great looking soaps, dispenser, toothbrush holders, bins and even towel racks. Adding few items like these with matching themes will definitely make it look a whole lot better in no time, and it doesn’t require to spend too much either. Try not to buy too much of the same thing, or mix around with color schemes too much as this will make your bathroom look a bit unattractive.

An affordable way to make your bathroom look a hundred times more classy, is to add glass where possible. By this, we mean that you might be able to replace your shower door with something with a glass like texture. Glass instantly creates a wealthy look and will almost definitely increase the value of your home. You may want to look at having some inexpensive glass cabinets installed into your bathroom too. The quality isn’t that great, but it will still a whole lot better than those tacky wooden ones you currently have. Always try and be cost efficient as much as possible, and always prioritize. If you are thinking about making some big changes and don’t have the money, just pick on one of two things you can afford and do what you can with the rest. This may include changing the sink you currently have, or replacing it for a nicer one. Whatever you do, just make sure you have a very strict budget that you can stick to and plan everything before you make any changes.

Repainting your bathroom walls is another cheap way to make it look nicer. You don’t have to buy things that are expensive such as tiling and wallpaper in order to make your bathroom look nicer. sometimes all you need need is a fresh layer of paint and its done. You will probably want to buy some paint that matches your color theme or you might find yourself with an over contrasting bathroom, which is never pleasant. Applying white paint always make bathrooms clean and fresh, just add a few layers to give it a glossy look afterwards.

These are the basics to jazzing your bathroom up without spending much money. Make use of these tips wisely and you’ll be able to create the bathroom that you always dreamed of without breaking the bank.

There are a number of simple ways to go about repairing low spots on your driveway. Low spots in asphalt are often called birdbaths because of their tendency to create puddles of water on driveways. If these are not very deep– less than an inch can, they can be filled up to make them level with the surrounding asphalt. Sunken areas or birdbaths in asphalt can be repaired with a few different asphalt repair products found below.

Repair of sunken asphalt must be done after loose material has been removed from the crack using a brush, a blower or a broom. A greasy or badly-soiled asphalt repair patch may be washed with cleaning agents available in the market, and especially meant for cleaning driveways. A pressure washer might even be needed in extreme cases. Ensure that there is no standing water while the patching material is being applied to your asphalt driveway repair. In a pinch, a torch can be used to dry standing water.

One option is to apply “driveway coating” or emulsified liquid asphalt so that the new and the old material adhere together. Smooth and then tamp the patch and allow the driveway to dry for a day before you seal-coat the whole driveway. For a faster repair, use polyurethane repair material FloMix. Mix your materials and spread them over the damaged area and coat with topping sand. This repair will be complete in about an hour.

In case of a large pothole you can use cold patch or FloMix. Cold patches must be applied gradually (2″ patches at a time) and repeatedly tamped to avoid the formation of air pockets. If you are unable to tamp the repair, FloMix can be mixed simply to fill the pothole. It does not need any special equipment for installation and provides a long-lasting asphalt driveway repair.

When first installed, asphalt driveways should be poured over a base of crushed stone, which is placed either on undisturbed grade, or on fill soil that has been mechanically compacted. When driveways sink, it is often because the underlying surface was not properly compacted, or because the fill dirt contains debris (such as tree stumps or vegetation) that are decomposing and collapsing underground. There are other less common causes such as erosion and undermining of the soil bed due to improper rainwater drainage, broken pipes, unknown underground water source, sinkholes, marshland, expansive soil, seismic disturbances or even volcanic activity.

If your home is new and the damage to your asphalt driveway repair is significant, contact your builder. Improper compaction of the driveway subsoil is an issue that causes these problems and should be covered under your home’s warranty. If you suspect a broken buried line or pipe could be adding to your problem contact your utility company, or dial 811 for a free identification of buried lines and cables. Check out your rain gutters, downspouts and rainwater drainage to make sure water isn’t running toward your driveway, pooling or eroding the soil underneath it.

If your problem continues after repairing your driveway, contact a soil engineer to determine exactly what’s going on underground. Avoid continued patching of your driveway if it’s going to keep on sinking, and it is essential to make sure there’s not an underlying problem that could grow worse or even affect your home’s foundation.

Getting a home inspection prior to buying a home seems like a no brainer today but you would be amazed at how many people just take a Realtor’s word for things. I have seen and heard it over and over where people say “But the Realtor said…” Yup, and if it is not in writing it is just that, words. A Realtor works for the seller, not you. They get paid when they make a sale. Of course they are nice. Would you buy from a nasty person? Of course not. I am not saying all Realtors are mis-leading but in many cases, they just don’t know. They are not builders or engineers or architects or inspectors. They are salespersons. You take a car to a mechanic before you buy it, why not take your house to a professional home inspector? There are out there today many great home inspection companies to choose from. Here is a hint, do not use the one the Realtor suggested. Use one not associated in any way with either the seller or Realtor. You will get a better quality, unbiased inspection that way.

A home inspector should be able to perform the inspection in a few hours time. The inspector will look into any accessible space but will not cut open walls for instance. If it is plain sight, the inspector should see it. Generally inspectors if they feel something is awry in a concealed space, will say so and put it on their report for you to check that item further.

They will start the inspection with the homes exterior to check things like roofing, gutters, foundation walls, general site grading, paint condition, windows, cracked driveway surfaces and so on.

Moving inside, again, all windows should be checked for glass condition, weather striping and to see if they operate correctly. Other items such as cracks in the drywall, doors that don’t close properly, sagging floors or ceilings, water stains, light fixtures, faucets and bath fixtures, overall general condition, kitchen appliances and so on. Electric panels and outlets will be checked for proper polarity, wall plates, panel tags on breakers and so on.

Moving to the basement area, an inspector will look for water mold stains, cracked foundation walls, dry rot in floor joists, conditions of support posts and a general look at the heating system. Is the boiler or furnace working properly? Is the furnace burner burning correctly? Any leaking pipes present? Do all electrical boxes have covers on them? It is not uncommon to have had one taken off and not replaced. The inspector will look at any sump pumps present to determine if possible, if the pumps are emergency use only or a daily need. Millions of homes have sump pumps and it will not deter a mortgage lender if the pump(s) and related piping are in working order.

Any good, independent inspector, will provide you with a well written report within a day or so.

Expect to pay him when he presents the report. He has no vested interest in whether you buy the home or not so his opinion should be honest and straightforward. He gets paid upfront no matter what your decision is in the end. Some inspection companies will provide a general values for repairs but always check with a local contractor before making a decision whether to buy or not. You want no surprises after you buy the home.

Home warranties are often available for the appliances depending upon their age. Replacing a fifteen hundred dollar fridge two months after moving in is not fun. Polices are usually quite cheap. Ask the Realtor if one is available.

Pete Ackerson

Pete Ackerson is a 40+ year building inspector and construction super with experience in both public and private construction industries. From schools to treatment plants, from private homes and condo projects, to large residential landscaping projects, he has worked both in the building design areas and field construction in the Eastern US. In 2006 he formed along with two other building inspectors, Wagsys LLC which produced software for municipal agencies in the fields of building departments, planning boards and Zoning Boards of Appeals.

Ridding the body of toxins is the best way to stay healthy. This led to the popularity of sauna at home. Originating from Finland, it has often been noted to increase blood circulation, strengthen the immune system and improve resistance from colds and infections. It also provides a temporary relief for asthma, bronchitis, muscle and joint pain including arthritis. Just 15-minutes a day can help lose weight, attain a healthy skin and improve the immunity system.

There are several factors to consider to have one in the convenience of your home. Determine the location, consult an expert and choose from the variety of sauna design and kit before installing it at home. This will save you time and money to have one privately installed. It would be best to search the internet for some information first before making a decision.

Installing a sauna may take a large chunk of space. Indoor or outdoor make sure you have enough room that is accessible to wiring, vents and plumbing. If needed it may completely renovate your home. Better consult your local builder to distinguish the state law regarding this renovation. Sauna should be in a safe distance to avoid inflicting moist in your house.

Determine how many people will use it at one time. For personal use it is recommended to have 3-by-4 feet measurement. However if you intend to accommodate six or more individuals for family or group use, it should be at least 10-by-14 feet. The room should have a height of 7 foot to get the best steam result. Cedar planks can be used for seats. It should be long enough to allow the bather to stretch.

Determine whether you would like to use wood, gas, electric or infrared as heat source. This is a great determiner for the location of the sauna. Wood saunas are best installed outdoor, while gas heaters are ideal for indoors particularly those who have existing gas lines. Electric sauna and infrared heaters on the other hand can be installed anywhere. For any preference one must have a professional install it for safety reasons.

Small heaters require a 120V outlet while free-standing unit would need a 240V power source. Installing a foil vapor can act as barrier and insulator. Those R rated fiberglass batteries can preserve hear well. Exhaust vents should also be taken in consideration.

Currently portable and sauna kits are made available in the market for individuals who intend to do it themselves. Portable sauna is easy to install, while kits may require general framing before it can be installed. Buying sauna kits though are more affordable.
Building your own bar is cheaper when compared to hiring a contractor for the job. It is an easy job, but will require enough time to finish successfully. When constructing a bar follow the following easy steps:

Step 1: design – after deciding the location of your bar, go online and research bar designs. Get pictures. Get ideas. Draft your own design that fits your style.

Step 2: materials- list all the materials needed for the project. The materials normally include saws, screws, glue and clamps. For the frame, purchase 8 – 2 by 4 pieces of wood with length determined by the bar size. For the structure and the bar top, purchase either plywood, vinyl, leather or wood planks. For the bar railing, purchase molding of a very distinguishing size. You might need more material than what is listed here depending on your design. But, make sure you purchase beer taps for the beer lovers.

Step 3: frame building – use the 2×4 pieces of wood, glue and wood screws. For a standard bar, the box should be 108 inches by 42 inches built using 6 – 38 inch and 2 – 108 inch 2×4s. A 108 inch 2×4 is added to offer support for the lower counter 21 inches from the bottom. Screw it on the inside of the frame.

Build the sides using 2 – 38 inch, 2 – 18 inch, and 1 – 14 inch 2×4s. The 14 inch 2X4 will offer support for the lower counter and is attached between the 38 inch vertical supports 21 inches from the bottom. Build two sides in the same fashion.

Build the back using 1 – 100 inch, 2 – 36 inch, 2 – 34 inch and 2 – 28 inch 2×4s. The 100 inch 2X4 will add support at the top with the two 36 inch 2X4s offering bottom support for the two end shelving units. The 34 inch 2X4 will offer vertical supports for the gap in the middle and the 28 inch 2X4s will offer support for the lower counter 21 inches from the bottom. Finally, stand the front 108 inch by 42 inch frame up and attach the sides. Assemble the back using above specifications.

Step 4: surface – add surface using plywood, then cover using whatever materials you purchased for your design. For the front, use several pieces of plywood that equal 108 inches by 42 inches. The sides will require a 42 by 18 inch piece of plywood for each side. The back can be left open after you build the shelving. But, you can also purchase doors from your local hardware store to sharpen your bar up a bit.

Step 5: top, rail and cover – for the base of the top, cut plywood so that you can cover the 108 inch by 18 inch surface. Then, cover using countertop surface, high quality wood or wood planks. The molding will cover the ugly gaps and edges. Cover the front and sides of your bar with vinyl, leather or whatever surface you purchased.

Step 6: finish – Applying lacquer to wood makes for a great finish. But according to the materials you used, you can either leave the countertop the way it is if it’s marble or granite. Paint it if you simply used went with plywood. The bar top should be placed in the center the bar and all that takes is drilling a hole for the bar tap to fit through. Install track lighting and add some stools. You are finished my friend.

Of course, you could add a foot rest around the bottom of the bar. Hang some beer signs and mirrors. Run television in from your cable or satellite installation and you’re in business.

Stan Schubridge is the spokesperson for Beertaps, he’s a beer enthusiast who has a knack for getting involved in building home bars for his friends and learning more about brewing great tasting beer. From extravagant bars to the most unique bar designs, Stan has either seen it, done it or given it a try. As far as brewing beer, his ideology is that if you have a home bar have a home brew.
