You may be thinking that replacing your old water heater with a new tankless water heater by yourself is a great weekend project. But do you even have any idea on how or where you are going to start? If you are confident enough on your skills as a do-it-yourself handyman that you can pull this off, then here are some things that you need to keep in mind when installing a tankless heater by yourself.

1. Though it may seem that installing a tankless water heater seems easy, it is still better to always consult with the instruction manual that came with the unit before and during the installation process. You should always have the manual close at hand when working, so whenever you get stuck in a certain stage in the installation process you could quickly consult it to get you back on the right track.

2. Before you can install a tankless heater, you need to carefully mark out the location you are placing it in. It should be in a relatively dry place that has easy access to the water pipes going into your house, it should also be well ventilated so that the excess heat from the unit will be able to escape easily.

3. Prepare the necessary pipe fittings and other materials you will need before you start installing. Consult the installation manual to find out what are the necessary components you will need. It is important that you do not use any other pipe sizes or fittings other than what the instructions states, as it might cause serious problems with your water heater in the future.

By keeping these tips in mind when you are installing your new water heater will more or less ensure that your project will be successful. But if you are not really good at working with your hands, then you should definitely hire someone to install the unit for you.

There are certain advantages to hiring professional technicians to install you new tankless heater for you. The first one of course is that they have all the right tools and know-how to get the job done right. This means that you do not have to fret much about if your new water heater is safe or not. Another great advantage of leaving the job to professionals is that they give you a service warranty for their work. So if for some reason your water heater is not working properly after only a couple of uses they will come back and fix the problem for you, this time for good.

Though hiring a technician means you will be spending a bit more money on your already expensive tankless heater, it is still better than gambling on whether or not you will be can do the job without breaking the unit and voiding its warranty. If you want, there are some tankless water heaters where the installation is already included in the price, so you do not have to worry too much about it.

Check This Bosch Tankless Water Heaters Reviews before buying Bosch Tankless Water Heaters Right Now.

Unlike electric heating systems, radiator heating systems can sometimes stop working because of air trapped within the system. If the top of a radiator feels cold and the bottom feels warm, then it’s quite likely trapped air is forming bubbles within the piping that stops the flow of warm water from bottom to top. The time has come to bleed your radiators. In essence, bleeding a radiator means opening a valve to let the trapped air escape.

Look at your radiators and locate all the bleed valves. You can identify a bleed valve on a radiator as a small protrusion within a small cylinder. A bleed valve may be anywhere on the radiator, at an end, on the top or on the back. Also, a radiator may have more than one bleed valve.

You will need a radiator bleed key, a small key usually made of brass with a cross-piece at one end and a hollow at the other end that fits on top of the bleed valve — if one can’t be found, a standard replacement bleed key can be bought at a local DIY shop.

You’ll need a few more items before you start: o Small bowl to catch any water that leaks out while bleeding the valve o Cloth to protect your hand and to sop up water

Follow these steps to bleed a radiator:

1. Before you start bleeding your radiator, go to the main controls and turn off the central heating. You do not want more water or more air to be brought into the system while you have the bleed valves open.

2. Place the small bowl under the bleed valve to catch any dripping water.

3. Wrap the cloth around your hand to protect it against steam and hot water escaping the radiator via the bleed valve.

4. Slide the bleed key down onto the bleed valve until it fits firmly over the protrusion.

5. Turn the bleed key slowly at least a quarter-turn counter-clockwise. Air will begin to hiss out of the valve. When water starts to drip out of the valve, close the valve by turning the key clockwise.

6. Tighten the bleed valve with the key to make sure it’s fully closed.

7. Repeat Steps #2-6 for all the bleed valves on the radiator on which you’ve started and then move on to the rest of the radiators in the house that are exhibiting the same symptoms.

8. If you have a combi boiler, check the pressure gauge when you are all done bleeding the radiators to see if the boiler has sufficient pressure — the dial on the pressure gauge will have a line indicating the minimum pressure needed. If the pressure is too low, open the valve slowly on the filling loop to bring more water into the system — close this valve when the dial indicates the pressure is at the correct level.

9. Switch on the central heating. Within a few hours, all the radiators should be uniformly warm all over. Check all the bleed valves for any dripping water and tighten them if necessary.

Remember that a radiator system requires maintenance such as this fairly often and electric heating systems do not.

Have a look at the electric heating systems offered by Economy Radiators

Choosing what kind of water heating system that you will be using in your house is a somewhat difficult task since it would completely affect you and your household. In fact, it has been a huge problem for many on whether to choose a gas or electric water heater since the decision one should make would involve a lot of factors which may include energy efficiency, conveniences, cost and the like. It is really a must to know the specifications of these two types of water heaters in order to make a sound decision in choosing a water heating equipment.

One factor that you would surely mind is the cost of the water heating equipment you are going to use. It is very important for you to know which one would let you save more money and which one would just waste it. When it comes to the cost of using it, gas water heaters would actually help you save more money that electrical water heating systems since it uses natural gas which is less expensive than electricity. However, the fact that gas water heating systems are affordable could be totally falsified if ever you are not connected with a gas line since it would be costly to have it made. If this is the case, it would initially cost cheaper if you will be choosing an electric water heater since all you need to have is an electrical outlet.

Another factor that should be given the consideration is the safety of using a gas or electric heater. Both of these systems are totally harmless if they would be used appropriately. On the other hand, the electric heating system does not emit any harmful substance and this is the season why many recommend its use.

Eco-friendliness is another factor to consider when choosing between a gas or electric water heater since ecological crises such as global warming and climate change has been a huge problem these days. Water heating equipments that use electricity are said to be more environmentally friendly for it does not leave any residue when used. Also, they can be easily operated by eco-friendly power sources such as electricity that is generated by hydroelectric power plants, solar panels and turbines. On the other hand, heating system that uses gas are considered to be less eco-friendly for they use either profane or natural gas that can emit substances that contributes to global warming.

When it comes to utilization and convenience, both of these two can be highly commended. Most heaters these days, whether it is a gas or electric heater, are getting more convenient to use since they are continuously being developed. For instance, the usual water heater that uses a storage tank was upgraded into a tankless water heater that does not consume to much energy for it only heats the water whenever it is needed.

Generally, there are no better-than-the-other factor thing when it comes to these two types of tankless heater since both of them has their own advantages. Gas water heaters are perfect for those who are looking for less expensive water heating system that will save people from the costly electric bill while electric water heaters are great for those who are looking for a water heating system that is eco-friendly and that does not emit harmful substances.

Renewable energy is very much in the news at the moment. There has been much talk of creating “green collar” jobs in the renewable energy sector. Solar power installers are likely to become a much in demand job over the next few years. But the good news is, you might not need them. Because of the simplicity of the technology involved, it is relatively easy to install solar power yourself.

The Benefits of Installing Solar Power
If it is done right, installing solar power means that you will never have to pay an electricity bill again. In fact, in some states, you are allowed to sell excess electricity that you produce back to the grid. Solar power is also good for the environment, as it produces no carbon emissions, and for national security, as it helps reduce Americas dependency on oil, much of which comes from hostile regimes.

What You Will Need to Install Solar Power
The bare minimum that you will need in order to install solar power in your home is some solar panels, a rechargeable 12 volt deep cycle battery, a DC meter and a DC input. If you want to run AC appliances, you will also need an inverter. The number of solar panels and batteries you will need depends on the size and design of your home, and the amount of power you want to generate.

How to Install a Solar Power Generator
In order to turn these items into a fully fledged solar power generator, you will first need to connect all the components together. Using insulated wire, connect the DC meter to the negative pole of the battery by wrapping the wire around the wing nut terminal.. Then do the same for the positive pole. It is very important that you only connect one pole at a time, otherwise there is a risk of giving yourself an electric shock. Repeat these steps for the DC inlet or inlets, then do the same for the solar panels. If you like, you can put the battery in a battery box. If you do this, you will need to use a drill to attach the DC inputs and meter to the top of the box before connecting them to the terminal.

If you are using power inverters, connect them to the DC inlets now. Inverters are available up to 3000 watts. Total up the wattage of all the AC equipment in your home that you are likely to be using at any one time to figure out the wattage of the inverter that you will need. Finally, attach the solar panels to the wall or roof of your home. Make sure you place them where they will be most exposed to the sun. Leave the battery to charge up for 8 hours or so and voila! You have installed a solar power generator in your home.

Noel is an experienced economist, sociologist and marketer with an interest in renewable and solar energy and he cares about our environment .Now is the time for YOU to bite the bullet and do your bit for the environment. Don’t wait for someone else to start .Make your move and be a leader in your community. Future generations deserve this chance. So, if you want to FINALLY see some success, then you MUST go to the site below.Otherwise you are just going to keep spinning your wheels and getting nowhere.

When the cold days of winter arrive, you want to make sure you are heating your home as efficiently as possible. However, when you feel cold winter drafts wafting into your living room, you know energy is being wasted. Never mind the fact that you want to be warm. Here are five tips to reduce those cold winter drafts.

Make Sure All Doorways Are Properly Sealed. When doorways are not properly sealed, outside air is flowing into your home. This prevents your thermostat from reaching the desired temperature and holding it. In short, you are looking at an incredibly large utility bill. You can add insulating tape around the doorways, and seals are available that you can put at the bottom of your doors to be sure air is not getting into the house.

Make Sure All Windows Are Properly Sealed. Because homes have so many windows, often some of them have drafts. Re-caulking the areas around your windows can have a drastic effect in reducing cold winter drafts throughout your home. Even a beginner can do this easy project.

Insulate Your Attic Sufficiently. Without proper insulation, your attic can let lots of cold air into your home. Adding new insulation often really helps with drafts and energy costs as well. Sometimes you will want to hire a professional to do the job, since there are specific ratios of insulation per square footage. However, the money it saves you over time is definitely worth the cost.

Close The Fireplace Flue When You are Not Using It. While your fireplace keeps your house warm, the flue that lets the smoke out can let cold air in. Keep it closed when you do not have a fire going, especially if your fireplace does not have doors. Lots of cold air gets in your home this way, and you do not need to have the flue open unless you are using the fireplace.

See if Your Local Energy Authority Offers Home Energy Evaluations. Some energy service providers will evaluate your homes’ energy efficiency free. These energy inspections usually cover several areas of energy consumption, and if there are unsealed doors and windows that you have overlooked, the experts can help you find them. If no one offers this service free in your area, it is likely that you can find someone who specializes in this for a fee. However, if you are experiencing lots of cold drafts, you are paying a premium in energy costs for a cold house. It is definitely not worth it in the end, especially with the rising costs of utilities.

You want your home to be as energy efficient as possible while still keeping you warm during the cold winter months. Using these five tips to reduce cold winter drafts can help keep you toasty warm, and save you money as well. Whatever money you spend making your home more energy efficient will pay you back in full in reduced heating costs in the winter, and lower air conditioning costs in the summertime for that matter.

Tankless water heaters are quite expensive so you need to carefully think things over before you take out your checkbook. There are some things you need to take into consideration so you can be sure that the money you do spend on your new water heater is money well spent. So here is a short buyer’s guide to help you figure out what kind of tankless water heater is perfect for your home.

Quality

Even though your new tankless water heater is guaranteed to save you money on your energy bills, because of its high initial investment cost it will take a long time before it can completely pay off for itself. Which is why you need to make sure that the unit you will buy is going to last at least until then if not longer. Compare different brands and models of tankless water heaters, check which of them are made from durable materials that can withstand the abuse that it will undergo every day. Do not just make your decision based purely on which tankless water heater costs less, odds are if you buy the cheaper heater you will spend more money on repairs and you may even have to replace the unit sooner than you expected.

Water Demand

The next thing that you need to think about before buying a tankless heater is how much water your household will consume in a day; you need a water heater that can keep up with the hot water demand. If you do not have a lot of members in your family then a smaller capacity heater is enough for your needs, but if you have a large family then it is best to go with a heavy duty model.

For economical reasons, you should only place these water heaters in the places in your house that actually needs to have hot water. If you only need hot water for your showers or baths then you should just install a small tankless water heater to locally supply hot water in your bathroom only. This way you do not have to spend a lot of money for a large water heater that is capable of supplying hot water for the entire house.
Climate

The climate on where you live should also be taken in consideration when buying water heaters. If you live in a place with a rather warm climate then surely the water running in the pipes is slightly warm already so you only need a heater that has a low power rating. But if it is freezing in the place you live in then you will surely need a tankless water heater that has enough power to heat up near freezing water into a comfortable temperature.

When shopping around for water heaters, regardless if it is tankless or not, these three factors should always be taken into consideration. Remember, you will be putting down a lot of money for your tankless heater, so you need to make sure that it can accommodate your needs.

Check This Bosch Tankless Water Heaters Review before buying Bosch Tankless Water Heaters Right Now.

Winter is upon us. Costs to heat are homes are expected to rise anywhere from 10% to 23%. We may want to consider some alternative ways of heating our homes this winter.

Geothermal heating systems are very efficient and environmentally friendly. It uses heat from the earth to help warm your house. The earth’s relatively stable temperature of 45 to 75 degrees (depending on where you live) is considerably higher than cold outdoor winter air temperatures.

Since the temperature in the earth is warmer than outside winter air, the heater doesn’t use as much energy raising it the rest of the way to the temperature your thermostat is set at. A compressor takes the heat obtained from the coils and acts as a heater to raise it the rest of the way. In the summer the process is reversed and used for cooling. The cost of this system is rather high, but operating costs are low.

Another alternative is to use a pellet stove to heat the part of your home you spend the most time in. Pellet stoves are similar to a wood stove, but burn pellets made from sawdust or switchgrass. Pellets are easy to store, and use a renewable energy source. The cost of a pellet stove and pellets is much less than for many other systems.

Solar energy systems are also a great option. Depending on the system, the costs can be relatively high, but the sun’s energy is free, and very eco-friendly. New homes can be designed to take advantage of the sun’s rays for passive solar heating.

A masonry heater is similar to a traditional fireplace, except that long, twisting smoke channels wind through the bricks in the chimney. These heated bricks slowly give off their warmth over the next 12-24 hours, warming your home. They are much more energy efficient than traditional fireplaces.

Masonry heaters generate less air pollution than traditional wood burning stoves or fireplaces as they burn slower. The price for this system varies depending on the size you need. If you live in an area where wood is readily available, this may be an option for you.

In the meantime, Utah heating specialists can fine-tune your existing system to keep it running optimally. Utah heating contractors can help you install a new system when you are ready for an upgrade. No matter what system you choose, Utah heating contractors can help you get it.

It’s important to have a trustworthy plumber to take care of your plumbing needs and air conditioning, and heating

There are a number of simple yet effective ways to save energy and money when it comes to heating your home. Continue reading to learn four ways to reduce home heating bills during the fall and winter months.

1. Ensure Sufficient Insulation

Installing insulation is one of the best ways to reduce heating bills, because it works to protect your home’s interior heated air. How? Insulation limits heat transfer through a home’s ceiling, attic, walls, floors, basement, and crawl space. A home that is sufficiently and properly insulated will experience far less heat loss than an uninstalled home, resulting in significantly lower home heating bills.

In North Carolina, the recommended insulation R-value ranges from R30 to R60 for an uninsulated attic and R19 to R30 for floors. Speak with a certified NC insulation contractor about your home’s insulation needs. Remember that different homes and climates require varying R-values and types of insulation (e.g. spray foam, rigid foam, blown foam, fiberglass). But in general, when it comes to insulation, more is better!

2. Seal Cracks Along Windows and Doors

Many homeowners assume that having sufficient insulation will solve all air leakage problems in their home. Wrong! Even a home with the best insulation will incur hefty heating bills if the cracks along windows and doors are not properly sealed. In an unsealed home, your costly heated air will leak outside through cracks, while frigid outdoor air seeps into the space. This results in massive home heating bills and an uncomfortable, cold house.

If your home often feels “drafty,” contact a certified air sealing contractor as soon as possible! Doing so will drastically reduce home heating bills during the fall and winter months and make your home feel much cozier and comfortable during the winter.

3. Repair Leaking or Clogged Air Ducts

When it comes to costly home heating bills, leaking or clogged air ducts are often the culprit. If your home has a forced-air heating system, it uses air ducts to transport the heated or cooled air throughout the home. If, however, the air ducts are clogged with debris or are poorly connected, you’re wasting a lot of energy and money. In fact, clogged or leaking air ducts can cause up to 35% of a home’s heated air before it even reaches the air vents. This means you’re paying a lot of money for heated air that you aren’t able to enjoy.

4. Install an Energy-Efficient Furnace

Similar to the relationship between insulation and air sealing, an inefficient furnace will continue to wreak havoc on home heating bills even if your ducts are in a row. Such interlocking systems perfectly illustrate that a home is a cohesive unit — each part dependent upon another to reach maximum energy-efficiency.

If your furnace is more than 10 or 15 years old and/or has a low AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating below 85%, it’s definitely time for an upgrade. You’ll notice an immediate difference both in your heating bills and in your home’s air quality. To ensure maximum efficiency and savings, though, remember that your home’s air ducts must be working properly!

To increase comfort in your home, use less energy, help the environment, and reduce home heating bills, contact a certified home heating contractor today!

During the most dreadful cold season, heaters are man’s best friend. But like most home appliances, heaters can do much damage when it comes to electric bills. Henceforth, solar power enthusiasts have devised a way on how to build a solar air heater that is not only affordable but relatively easy to do. To make your own solar air heater, you will need to build a box made of plywood. This box, which is recommended to be insulated, will hold five rows of ten aluminum soda cans. These cans are to be painted black. To prevent hot air from escaping, the box must be sealed. From the bottom of your plywood-made box, cold air may be drawn while the hot air comes from the top. The same hot air shall pass through a pipe where it will be heated.

Like all other solar powered appliances, the solar air heater require a solar panel that will absorb the light energy and later convert it into a heat generating device. For the solar air heater, you can use a sheet of plexiglass. You must glue this to the plywood box but only to let the sun’s rays inside. Once again, make sure that the heated air is sealed inside the box. One of the main thrusts of how to build a solar air heater is the heating process conducted within the aluminum cans. It is inside these cans that the air is heated, and this later rises up going towards the pipes that then release the hot air into the room which needs warming up.

The aluminum cans are responsible for holding the heated air, for it is in their column that the air passes through. Because there is already a drinking hole on top of the aluminum can, there is only a need to drill one more hole at the bottom of the can to ensure the passage of air. Because silicon plays a major role in light absorption and energy conversion, the cans are glued together with the use of a silicon adhesive. Painting them black also helps in light absorption. The final steps in how to build a solar air heater involves sealing the box with a tempered glass sheet. This will make sure that hot air does not escape. All in all, the steps in making your own solar air heater are simple if you have the necessary materials and the patience to wait until the all the components have been assembled together and brought to their functional capacity. At the end of the day, you have nothing to lose when you make your own solar air heater. Nothing to lose, but only so much to gain—heating, knowledge, and experience-wise.

Did you know that it is very possible now to build your own solar powered home easily and with little cost? You can help save the environment and also your wallet.

Visit this site now FullEarth4EnergyReview.com to find out on how to do this and to find out the many other advantages you do not know about solar energy.

If you live in a home with furnace heat that you use regularly, or are getting set to use your heater throughout the winter, then one of your major home maintenance priorities is to make sure that your heater’s filters are changed regularly. There is no reason to worry however; changing your furnace air filter is a quick and simple task that you can perform by yourself.

The general recommendation made by manufacturers is that you change furnace filters on a monthly basis. Your furnace manual should specify the recommended filter maintenance schedule if you are unsure of the frequency of recommended filter changes for your heater’s model. When you are sure that it is time to change your filter, your next step is to read your instruction manual to make sure that you are following the proper sequence of actions to change the filter on your particular model. To help you, I have listed a general outline of the normal steps taken to change a furnace filter.

1. Using the electric switch supplied on your furnace, you need to disconnect the power, before you perform any furnace maintenance, including filter changes. If your heater is gas powered and not electric, you should also shut down your gas line connection.

2. Again referring to your specific model’s manual, you need to locate and open the furnace blower door. Your reference manual should describe where it is and how to open the door on your furnace model.

3. Once the blower door is open, your furnace filter should be clearly visible. Simply slide out the filter to replace it with the new one. If you run into any problems or it seems to remove only with great difficulty, then I recommend you refer to your heater model’s manual.

4. When you remove the furnace air filter, it should be easy to see if it does indeed need to be replaced. The purpose of a filter is to remove dirt and other particles from the air that flows through your heater system. If the filter is coated black, it is time to go. The condition of your filter should be obvious through simple visual inspection.

5. Your filter is not the only place where dirt collects however, especially if your filter is extremely clogged. Be sure to check for other accumulation in the blower itself, and in the venting system immediately surrounding your heater unit. Any obstruction of the furnace airway can cause not only inefficiency, but is also a major fire hazard.

6. After determining that the filter does need changed, and that no other obstructions exist, simple refer to your owner’s manual, or to the description given on the old filter, so that you can get another filter from your local hardware store. Filters DO NOT usually interchange between models, so it is very important that you buy the correct one. If you have a washable furnace filter, remove it and wash all the dust out and replace the same way you removed it.

7. After purchase, simple replace the new filter into your furnace system in the exact same way that the old one came out. This is very important, as the filtration is unidirectional, meaning that the filter must be inserted so that the airflow is directed through it in the proper direction. Do not put your filter in backwards. Most filters are fiberglass, with one side that is slightly oily. This side usually faces the blower, and the other side collects the filtered material for disposal. If the texture (and of course your manual’s description) does not give you an indication of the correct installation direction, then you might simple look at the filter itself. Most models will have printed arrows on them to show you which direction you should insert your filter.

8. When you are done, make sure that the blower door is securely closed, your power and gas connections are reactivated, and your thermostat is set at the appropriate temperature.

In order to protect your furnace and the air quality in your home it is important to change your furnace air filter regularly. Neglecting to change your furnace air filter on a regular basis will cost you money in the long run.
