Remodeling your kitchen or thinking of selling you house and looking for ways to update the kitchen? Check out these quick and easy tips.

1.	Log onto sites like ebay.com. You can find 10% and 20% off Home Depot coupons. Buy as many as you need, but check the seller’s feedback first.

2.	If you are looking for contractors, try looking in your local listings for craigslist.org; you can also post a job listing and get quotes.

3.	Having trouble removing old wallpaper in your kitchen? Get a tool called a Paper Tiger that scores the paper, making tiny holes all over. Don’t press too hard with it, though, or you’ll score the wallboard underneath, too. Then spray on a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part fabric softener on the walls. Let it soak for a few minutes then just peel the paper off. Repeat as required.

4. When picking a colour for your Corian or Granite countertops, avoid darker solid colours. Dust, food crumbs fingerprints, grease stains, water stains, will all show up more prominently and make frequent cleaning mandatory. Lighter colours, while less dramatic, are more practical.

5.	A good flooring material for the kitchen is porcelain tile with non-slip texturing. You’ll want to use a darker grout colour, which will show less dirt build-up. Porcelain tile holds up well over the years and cleans up easy.

6.	For lighting, you should locate the brightest lights directly over the main countertop area and/or kitchen island. The reason for this is to prevent any shadows on you kitchen work surfaces. Show off those countertops to highlight their beauty. Accent lights can be located under cabinets, against walls, or other areas. Additional lighting can be added in larger kitchen spaces with wall sconces.

7.	If you want to freshen up your kitchen look to help in selling your home, a quick way to upgrade your old Formica countertops is to install granite tile over them. Couple this with some new matching cabinet hardware and drawer pulls. You’ll be surprised at the bang for the buck you get with this combo.

Carlo Morelli writes for OnlineTips.org, where you can read more tips on cleaning ceramic tile grout and granite countertops.

Fitting glass splashbacks is incredibly easy, so even if you are not brave enough to tackle measuring yourself you should consider fitting yourself, saving you a lot of money on installation costs.

To get started fitting your own glass splashbacks, you will need the following tools.

Silicone gun

Tile spacers

Neutral cure silicone

Builders wipes

Electrical screwdriver (optional)

If you need to fit around electrical sockets or plumbing fixings you must first remove any fittings. For electrical sockets ensure the power is completely isolated and test this using a phase tester/socket tester. It is probably best to get a qualified Electrician to do this for you.

The best wall panel to start on is usually your main cooker splashback or center wall panel. Place it with the painted side up on a level surface. Open your silicone and place it inside your silicone gun. Give the walls a quick dust and the rear of the glass so everything sticks properly when fitted. Next, using your silicone gun apply blobs of silicone/adhesive evenly on the painted side of the glass.

Lift the glass panel and place it firmly against the wall, preserve the expansion gaps you left using 2mm tile spacers (so place them underneath the glass and around the edges). The next splashback or wall panel you should fit should be directly beside your main splashback. So again, place it face down and apply your adhesive to the rear of the panel, press to the wall and maintain your expansion gaps using tile spacers. Remember, no expansion gap is necessary where a glass panel meets another panel, so ensure the joints are tight and flush. If there is any silicone/adhesive on the glass wipe it off before it hardens using your builders wipes.

Repeat the above for your remaining splashbacks and refit any plumbing fittings or electrical sockets. You must now leave the spacers in place for at least 24 hours to allow the adhesive to set. To check it has set, remove the bottom spacers and attempt to move the splashback, if you cannot then you are ready to seal your splashbacks.

Once ready to seal, remove all your tile spacers and seal around all the edges using your neutral cure silicone. A great piece of advice is after sealing with silicone, spray the edges with a mixture of soapy water. This will stop the silicone sticking to your fingers and allow you to leave a very neat looking finish to the edges.

Kitchen sink is an essential element of your kitchen. You need it for various reasons like washing utensils, taking water for cooking, washing the countertop conveniently and much more. If you are wondering how to install kitchen sink then you are on the right page. Here is a step by step procedure of kitchen sink installation. Following these steps will surely help you find out how easy this plumbing task really is. Let’s start.

How to Install a Kitchen Sink: Step by Step Procedure

Materials Required

Sink, faucet and strainer

Measure tape

Adhesive tape

Marker

Drill machine

Saber-saw blade

Flexible supply tubes

Plumber’s putty

P- trap

Procedure

Step 1
Basically if you want the new kitchen sink to fit on to the kitchen countertop and a kitchen cabinet below it. First, start by measuring the space below and the width the countertop. This will help you to decide the width and depth of the new sink to be purchased. Usually a 22 inches wide sink will fit properly in a countertop with a width of 24 inches. In case there is a backsplash as well, then you can opt for a 20- 20½ inches wide sink.

Step 2
While installing kitchen sink, remember that you have to properly locate the opening in the countertop. In most of the cases a template is provided by the sink manufacturer, while you purchase one, to ensure right placement. So firstly you need to place this sink template on the countertop. It must be placed so that there is at least 1½ – 2 inches space between its edge and the countertop’s front edge, where you’ll stand. Also it must be centered on the sink cabinet. In case, your kitchen countertop is wider than the aforementioned measurements, then you must place the sink not more than 4 inches backwards from the countertop’s frontal edge. Now, once you have placed the sink template on the right position, tape it and then mark the outline. Now remove the template. Let’s look at the next step of kitchen sink installation.

Step 3
Take the drill and start making 3/8-inch-diameter holes in four corners and join the four hole with a marker pen. Now you have to cut-out this piece. So, insert a saber-saw blade in one of the four holes and start the cutting process. Move it from one hole to the next, following the marker line. Now remove the cut-out once you are done with the cutting procedure.

Step 4
Now you have to install certain small parts that must be properly done before you are done with kitchen sink installation on the countertop. This will speed up and aid easy installation. First you need to install a kitchen faucet or sprayer. Wondering how to install kitchen sink faucet or how to install kitchen sink sprayer? Well, here’s an easy one! Just follow the kitchen faucet installation procedure in the manufacturer’s guide. Now finish by attaching the sink strainer in the kitchen sink center hole. Now the kitchen sink is ready to be installed.

Step 5
Keep the sink upside down. Take the plumber’s putty and apply it on all the edges of the sink. Flip the sink to bring its right side up and place it in the countertop cavity. Usually the sink is fixed using clips from underside that will pull it tight downwards and ensure that no space is left between the sink and countertop. These clips are further hooked and the screws are tightened.

Step 6
Now you need to connect the sink with the parts underneath the sink space. Here’s how to install kitchen sink drain pipes. Start this step by connecting the P-trap. Next use flexible supply lines to join the faucet line to the hot and cold supply lines. Remove the aerator from the faucet. Now connect the strainer to the drain pipeline. Turn on the water and let it run for 2-3 minutes. Now reinstall the aerator. The procedure of kitchen sink installation is over and its ready to be used.

You can also attach the cabinet doors after you’re done with the installation, to cover up the space below the sink, to hide all ugly pipes and hoses. Well, how to install kitchen sink is not a difficult task if you follow the aforementioned procedure. Right? Just try it!

Color tiles are much more than a pretty accent for your kitchen wall tiles. Look around you and really take a look at the colors you have chosen to decorate your kitchen. How do they make you feel? If the color tiles of your kitchen tile designs do not give the feel to the room that you desire – it may be time to give your kitchen a color makeover.

Color is nature’s way of expressing and creating feelings. There are no accidents in nature and there should be no chance events behind your creative choice of color in your home. If your life feels confused; if you are at a crossroads; if you lack the feelings of love or abundance, to change your moods, alter the color of your surroundings.

Use Green To create feelings of good health and wealth

We are affected emotionally and physically by our surrounding colors. Since the kitchen is traditionally known as the heart of our home, we want to keep it healthy, wealthy and wise.

Consider using various shades of green for your kitchen backsplash tiles. One only needs to look at nature and think of how lush green grass appears when it is healthy and well-nourished, and the fresh green colors found in vegetables such as broccoli and kiwis.

Friends and family tend to gather in the kitchen for food and fellowship. Green envelopes them in the feelings of a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

Create Feelings Of cheeriness and Heightened Creativity with Yellow

If sunshine makes you happy, so will yellow color tiles in your kitchen! If your kitchen’s small and windowless, yellow is the perfect solution. It will make a dark room appear bright and cheerful. Use a pale yellow to visually expand a small kitchen. Yellow makes for beautiful, eye-catching kitchen backsplash tiles as well as very attractive kitchen wall tiles.

For a larger kitchen, install rich golden yellow color tiles to create a warm, cozy environment. This color heightens creativity, inspiring you to boost your culinary skills. Yellow is symbolic of gold and can invite wealth into your home!

Bring in Feelings Of Excitement, Passion and Warmth With Red

Bright red kitchen backsplash tiles can put your entire kitchen on high alert. Red is a very popular color choice for kitchen designers, and when used properly It can make quite a statement. Red kitchen backsplash tiles and kitchen wall tiles have a flair of excitement, drama and passion.

A darker shade of red can create a cozy warm glow to the space. It creates a mood that envelopes your visitors in pure comfort and warmth. Red is also said to induce hunger. Maybe this is why most fast food companies use this color for their logo.

Red color tiles are becoming increasingly popular for designing stylish kitchen backsplashes. It is the most intense of color choices. It doesn’t matter if you sprinkle them into your kitchen backsplash or tile the entire backsplash red, Red tones do a great job of drawing the eye to them. and they can really make a room come alive.

Don’t limit yourself with just creating the wonderful moods of red, green and yellow. Nature supplies us with many more colors to create moods. Correct color use in our homes can increase abundance, health, serenity and positive energy.

Do you dream of the perfect kitchen extension? Apropos gives you five top tips for getting kitchen extensions right:

1) WHAT DO HOMEOWNERS WANT THEIR KITCHEN EXTENSIONS FOR?

This may seem like a strange question, but many homeowners don’t merely want their kitchen extensions to be kitchens. New kitchen extensions can be very expensive, so plan carefully for life with your new kitchen extension. As well as a place for cooking, will it also be used as a dining room? Will it be an area for entertaining, a hub for family life, or used as an additional living room? If so, kitchen extensions must be planned accordingly. If kitchen extensions are to be used to entertain guests, then incorporating a set of folding sliding doors will make the most of warm nights. Most of all, kitchen extensions should be future-proofed. Homeowners should consider what their requirements may be in four or five years time and incorporate them into their new kitchen extensions.

2) PLAN THE LAYOUT BEFORE APPEARNCE

Once a kitchen extension’s function has been considered, plan its layout before its appearance. Open-plan kitchen extensions are fabulous, but the addition of folding sliding doors or bespoke floor-to-wall windows may mean careful consideration is required for the kitchens’ layout. For instance, kitchen extensions should avoid placing major appliances, such as an oven or hob near folding sliding doors, where there will be a high level of footfall in the summer. Once homeowners have decided on the layout, they can then plan how to maximise the glazing of their kitchen extensions.

3) REMEMBER, VENTILATION

Good ventilation is vitally important for kitchen extensions. This is especially important in the colder months when condensation can possibly be an issue. Ensure rooflights and windows have adequate vents, and, at the very least, effective extractor fans should be installed in all kitchen extensions.

4) PRIVACY IS IMPORTANT

Many homeowners want their bespoke kitchen extensions to act as a focal point for family life, and therefore incorporate additional dining rooms and living rooms into the new kitchen extensions. Homeowners love the feeling of space and light that the additional glazing provides for this function, but with extra glazing, comes the potential for less privacy from the neighbours. Great kitchen extensions will counter this problem, such as with the clever use of rooflights or strategically-placed glass inserts. It may well be that homeowners’ gardens provide enough natural protection against prying eyes, but nonetheless the issue of privacy should always be considered when kitchen extensions are being designed.

5) ENSURE UTILITIES ARE PROPERLY CATERED FOR

“As with any proposed extension, construction work can involve reconfiguring a property’s connection to utilities, such as the water mains. This is especially important for kitchen extensions insofar as all three utilities – water, gas and electricity – are invariably key components of kitchen extensions. All work of this nature should only ever be undertaken by professionally-qualified engineers, and not left in the hands of amateurs.”

What to consider before building the kitchen (materials, paint etc.)? Choosing a material that provides resistance to the dirt which generates in a kitchen is very important. Polished wood or porous tiles (terracotta untreated) will quickly become a headache to maintain, choose a flat paint that will cover spots quickly. You should also remember that a kitchen requires careful attention to storage, cleanliness, good management of odors effectively with a hood, so it is highly recommended to invest in quality domestic appliances and, especially which makes no or very less noise.

What are the mistakes not to commit? Avoid at all costs transforming the living room into the kitchen. Exit the shelves of pots, packets of noodles or multifunction robot which are visible from the couch. These are the most common errors committed in my opinion.

How to organize the space to optimize a maximum? We must respect the triangle around for the functional use of the kitchen: food preparation, cooking and washing. Allow enough room for a comfortable work and store conveniently. The closet will be close to dish washing space and condiments, along with the cooking zone. In short, we must organize the kitchen to have on hand that you use most often and which store this is only episodically. Avoid, for example, the multifunction robot that takes all the space on the worktop so that you grate carrots only once a month!

Harmonize the kitchen and lounge which are nevertheless two distinct spaces? We must ensure that the kitchen comes to be forgotten and it is not the point “focus” of the living room. Use a light partition or folding sliding door, curtains, blinds, wall Japanese to modulate the visibility of the kitchen. Think about color and light management.

“Avoid at all costs transforming the living room in the kitchen!”

Precisely how to lighten the kitchen? It is important to think about the three types of lighting in a kitchen. The functional lighting, usually with tall furniture, notably allows having a good working comfort. The ambient lighting in the form of a ceiling or recessed ceiling spots, using just to see clearly. As for the decorative lighting, it gives the kitchen its character. It can be bright in the ramps over the kitchen furniture or underline baseboards, suspensions for a small plane or a nice bar applies.

Hiding kitchen in case of disorder, for example? Think the many tricks of camouflage as the flat bar behind which we hide the sink, furniture plan on closing a curtain with metal which allow a simple act of hiding the appliance or the closet with breakfast kettle, toaster, coffee machine etc.

Different ground material in the kitchen and the living room. Avoid breaks free coating which ensures a visual unity between the kitchen and the rest of the room. Ideally, ceramic floors are to be booked in the space capable of receiving splash water or fat around the sink area and plates / oven. In the presence of parquet flooring in the kitchen, it is preferable to opt for a little messy finish, like varnish. If you choose tile, make sure it goes well with the coating of the show both by color and by its geometry and texture. Ground Epoxy (resin), for example, has made a very contemporary and can be installed both in the living room and in the kitchen. It is easy to maintain as well.

Author recommend to buy Dining Chairs, office furniture, sofa sets and modern bedroom furniture only from reputed furniture manufacturers for a long lasting and a modern experience.

It is important to know the recommended measurement if you are designing a new kitchen. If the distances are too small or too large, it will make the daily work much more difficult. In this article you can find 10 important advices on how to design the perfect kitchen.

1. For efficiency, the work triangle (the space between the sink, refrigerator, and stove) should measure 26′ or less with no single side longer than 9′, or less than 4′.

2. In kitchens smaller than 150 sq. ft., opt for at least 13′ of base cabinets, 12′ of wall cabinets, and 11′ of countertop. In kitchens which are larger, go with at least 16′ of base cabinets, 15 1/2′ of wall cabinets, and 16 1/2′ of countertop.

3. Plan you work aisles no less than 42″ wide if you are one cook and 48″ if you are more than one in the kitchen.

4. Have a least 24″ of counter space on one side of the sink and 18″ on the other side.

5. To have the best landing when you are unloading groceries, you should have at least 15″ of counter space on the handle side of the standard refrigerator. If it is a side-by-side model, have the space on both sides. Or maybe even better, have a landing area directly across (no more than 48″ away) from the refrigerator.

6. To make it easy to clean up, the dishwasher should not be more than 36″ of the edge of the sink. Leave minimum 21″ of standing room next to it.

7. For ovens and microwaves, make at room for no less than 15″ of counter space with a minimum depth of 16″.

8. For optimum clearance, no entry, appliance, or cabinet doors should interfere with another.

9. The prevent repetitive-motion injury make the work counters have different height. For chopping and seated-use access have them between 28 and 36″ off the floor, and for more general tasks make then between 36 and 46″. This is standard measures. Taller cooks may need higher counters.

10. The clearance between the cook top and a cabinet unit must be minimum 24″ if the surface is fireproof and 30″ if it isn’t.

Kitchen design is equally divided between science and art. You can have a lot of good ideas, but if you do not know the recommended measurements, the result will never be satisfying. It is expensive to build a new kitchen, so you should make sure that you get the best result.

You have a small studio, but you are not giving up cooking. In a small space, the harder is to think of a functional kitchen but still you have to install a maximum of elements in a minimal space.

You will need to first decide if you want to shoot down a wall to install a bar. The kitchen system is often more suitable for a small kitchenette as we gain in brightness and room to move while also creating a real dining area. If the place is really missing, you can also consider installing your kitchen into a hallway.

Elements embedded
This is not because you have a small kitchen where you must do cooking without major appliances such as refrigerator and stove which are often bulky and are the most functional elements in the kitchen. You will need to find the manufacturers of compact kitchen furniture or combined components. One can for example consider installing a double hot plate on top of a small refrigerator. Depending on the water, inlets will be installed above the sink for washing machine or dishwasher. Of storage elements are placed vertically, leaving such an open shelf to install a microwave. According to the budget, you can invest in a microwave oven that combines functional oven.

A folding work plan
Everyone can not afford a custom kitchen. If you have a free wall in your kitchen, you can ask for a retractable worktop, which will also serve as a dining table. Simply place a long board to fall back against the wall with a hinge, so that you can fall it back when you are not using it. Allow a minimum height of 75cm. If you plan to eat, plan a width of 60cm for each cover. Buying folding or stacking chairs is also a good idea to save the space while not using it.

Replace the door with a sliding panel
A door needs room to open and close. You can maximize space by installing sliding or folding wooden doors instead of traditional doors. If you plan to redo your kitchen later, think of pocket doors (so-called brick partition) which are within the partition. A frame doors slid inside a metal box, which is hidden in an inside wall. If you just rearrange your kitchen, the sliding door can be added to existing without the need of heavy work. The panel will slide only along the wall along a rail. In addition, there are all kinds in all subjects in all colors and price ranges. Leaves in the glass may allow passage of light, creating a new piece in a space which originally has no windows.

Install rails suspensions
Not to multiply the small furniture, you can install rails or support bars, which hang on the kitchen utensils. Hooks hanging from the bar can be used to hang pots and pans or jars that can hold accessories such as the corkscrew. Some bars are magnetized in order to hold spice jars or knives. The bars are placed above the cooking area or work plan. You win as well in place and everything you need for convenience is at hand.

Functional storage
Found in the trade of accessories for easy storage inside the closets. Shelves swivel, sliding racks, sub-racks in the closets, you can have all the vessels visible and available, while saving space. You can play with the heights and dimensions of the elements and adapt them to the size and morphology of the room. Shoot for the function in your kitchen by leaving the useless devices and not loading the shelves of decorations that take the place of dishes.

Do not overlook ventilation
Good ventilation is essential, even in a kitchenette. It is essential for removing odors produced by the built-in refrigerator and oven. It must be clear, in perfect working order and comply with fire protection standards in force. All electricity and gas standards must be followed to the letter.

More tips
Ask you furniture manufacturer to make custom folding kitchen furniture with smart storage solutions for your kitchen.

For the past thirty years of being in the cupboard manufacturing business, there have been plenty of remodeling jobs where we upgraded kitchen or bathroom plastic laminate countertops. In this article, we will be exploring four possible ways to transform an old top into something that looks like brand new. The following suggestions should be performed by a cabinetry or countertop specialist. These are not do-it-yourself projects.

Resurfacing Existing Counters With New Laminate One of the most common questions people ask about this method of upgrading tops is; “does the old Formica have to be removed.” The answer is no. The new plastic gets glued right on top of the present surface. The existing laminate gets sanded down with coarse sandpaper and then contact glue is used to adhere the new material. This style of renovation is generally a very messy type of project that creates very fine dust particles in the air. There will also be some very strong odors that accompany the use of the contact adhesive and solvents. In most instances, recovering the old mica with new is cheaper than replacing the counters altogether. Depending upon how large or small your kitchen is it could take one to three days to complete the project. You can refer to the end of the article to read about when this renovation method cannot be used.

Adding Beveled Edge Molding Pieces If you like the existing color of your plastic laminate counters, but would like to give them a richer look, adding beveled edge molding is a great way to improve upon your present design. You may also combine this accent if you decide to re-laminate your tops. The process involves removing the existing one and a half inch (1-1/2″) thick edge of plastic and then cutting the new beveled edge molding to size and gluing it on with yellow carpenters glue. When the new strip is applied it will eliminate the black line that is commonly seen on most laminate tops. The material can be ordered from any cupboard manufacturing supply company.

Attaching a Wood Edge This plastic laminate countertop remodeling method is accomplished by adhering three quarters of an inch (3/4″) thick real-wood oak or maple to the edges of the tops. The existing laminate strips must be removed and then the new wood is attached with carpenters glue and finish nails. An alternative method of adhering the wood to the tops is by screwing the wood edges on and then plugging the holes.

Painting Formica Tops There’s a company called Giani Granite Paints that has developed an entire system for resurfacing several different types of countertops, including Formica. All-in-all it takes about four days to complete the painting procedure. Basically, there are several steps in preparing the counters for the new paint, then several paint applications that must be applied. The system is easy to use, but has very detailed instructions that you can review by following the link in the authors resource box below.

The only limitations that people run into when considering having their Formica plastic laminate counters remodeled is when they have a rolled over edge style top. These particular types of countertops are called post-form tops. There is no way to resurface them with new plastic or change the edge style to beveled plastic or real wood. The only alternative is to use the specially designed paint system, previously mentioned, to change the post-form tops appearance with.

For a detailed review of the countertop paint mentioned in the article visit the Fix My Cabinet website.

If you need to tighten your loose kitchen, bathroom vanity or office cabinet handle or perhaps a knob that’s loose, I know how. There are solutions for various situations. Fixing a screw that’s loose by just tightening it with a Phillip’s screw driver would be too easy. Read If that’s all you needed then you wouldn’t be searching the Internet for an answer for how to fix your door hardware. There’s a solution to your problems.

Why Won’t My Cabinet Handle Tighten?

1) If the screw’s tight and it’s still not seated correctly, the screw may be too long.

2) It’s possible that the cabinet installer used a metric screw rather than a standard American thread. This would cause the fastener to bind in the insert of the knob or handle.

3) A common occurrence on brass is that the inside threads get stripped out.

4) Plastic Handles and knobs have a tendency to crack sometimes. They will also strip out easier than the brass hardware.

5) Wood hardware could be cracked or stripped.

6) Sometimes hardware is placed on the decorative drawer face before it is attached to the actual drawer. Over time the screw becomes loose. Because it’s sandwiched between the drawer and decorative front it cannot be tightened easily.

Possible Solutions for Fixing Loose Cabinet Door Handles and Knobs

1) If the metal is stripped out a small dab of super glue will lock things down. YOU MUST NOT GET ANY ON THE CABINET DOOR. You know that you are going to have to work quickly too!

2) Tooth picks combined with wood glue work great for fixing wood, plastic or nylon knobs where the hole is stripped out.

3) Try a different type thread screw. Metric and standard screws are available from a local cabinet supply company.

4) If the knob was attached to the drawer face prior to it being mounted on to the cabinet drawer, remove the front and tighten the screws. Then reattach the decorative drawer face.

Outside of replacing your cabinet handle or knob that is loose, there really are not any other solutions related to how to fix a loose hardware. If you decide to use super glue, you must use a very small drop and attach the screw quickly. Make sure that you safeguard the countertop or floor below the area where you are fixing the loose kitchen or bathroom vanity cabinet knob.

An article about installing kitchen pantry cabinets is available from the authors website. He manages a site that explains how to fix cabinet parts that are broken.
