Tankless water heaters provide a continuous flow of hot water to your home not to mention the fact that you do not have to pay a huge sum on your electric bill. Homeowners have high demands when it comes to instant warm water on their kitchen faucets and bathroom shower. Aside from this, a smaller hot water mechanism is needed so as not to consume a lot of space on the tools cabinet. You can find numerous brands of tankless heaters in the market today but you have to make sure that the product has the perfect technology which can give you the services that you need.

The tankless device is different from the conventional heating system which is either powered by gas or electricity. Traditional heaters consume so much energy because it stores up warm water but the advantage is that the homeowner can easily have access to hot water supply anytime he opens the spout. On the other hand, tankless water heaters are equally outstanding because these products do not require so much power although you have to wait for a few minutes after you have turned the valve on.

Upon opening of the faucet, the system will automatically be activated and begin to pump hot water into the outlet and will continue to do so until such time that the control will be turned off. Tankless water heaters became very famous especially in populated metropolitan areas where there is a high level of hot water consumption. You do not have to build a tank for this particular system and the warm water that you require for the entire household will immediately be delivered once the need arises.

Now is the right time for you to shift to a more convenient and efficient way of using precious water without necessarily increasing your utility expenses. Saving some cash on your regular budget can definitely go a long way and you can use the money for your future expenses. Tankless water heaters live up to the hype and the unit has a regular size which you can easily fit in smaller storage areas. Studies show that these heating systems are 80% efficient as compared to its counterpart which only received a rating of 60% when it comes to its usefulness.

Another thing which many customers appreciate about tankless water heaters is that they never run out of hot water as long as the valve is open and this is very important especially if there are quite a number of people living in the house who need to use the shower in the morning. With conventional heating mechanisms, there is a tendency that the unit may not produce enough warm water for continuous use and the next person who will enter the shower will have to wait for the next batch of flowing hot substance.

Needless to say, having this hot water unit is a must for every household. You will see the advantage once you opt to purchase this first class product and have it installed in your homes.

Installing a ceiling fan can seem like a daunting task; however, you will find that if all the wiring is in place, installing a ceiling fan should be quite easy. Below you will find some important information in regards to installing a ceiling fan. Before getting started there are some items you may want to take into consideration. The size and style of the fan you choose will be very important with respect to installing a ceiling fan. In order to choose the correct fan, you’ll need to know the size of the room, as well as the type of ceiling you have.

Some people have vaulted ceilings which can make it difficult for installing a ceiling fan of a larger size. It will also make it difficult to position the fan properly if your ceiling is vaulted. Once you have selected the correct type of fan for your ceiling, it will be time to get started. With this tutorial of installing a ceiling fan, if you’ve never installed a lighting fixture before, you’ll want to pay close attention to the instructions listed below.

Installing a Ceiling Fan

Pre-Installation:

1. Turn off the power – This is probably the most important step when it comes to removing or installing electrical fixtures. It will be important that you follow this procedure as closely as possible. Do not just turn off the light switch that controls the light. You will want to turn off the breaker that controls the light in the room you plan on installing a ceiling fan.

2. Removing the old light fixture – This process should be done in the middle of the day so you can open your blinds or window shades in order to allow for enough light. Depending on the type of fixture you’re going to remove, it’s a matter of disassembling your old fixture and removing it from the light electrical box.

3. Disconnecting the wires – You want to make sure that you disconnect the wires from the old assembly, but make sure you marked each wire as to its proper location. This will make it easier when installing a ceiling fan.

4. Inspect the old electrical box – Make sure the electrical box that is currently installed can handle the fan weight and is mounted to either a truss, or a cross brace. This will ensure that when you install your new fan that it will have a proper foundation in order to work properly. If for some reason your electrical box is not mounted properly, it will be important for you to get the correct electrical box and mounting brace. When installing a ceiling fan weight will be an important factor, choose wisely.

Installing a Ceiling Fan

Installation:

Before getting started on installing a ceiling fan, make sure you read through the directions that come with your new fan. You will be surprised at how easily you will recall this information during the installation process. Make sure you have everything laid out in a way that you can select each item as you move along.

5. Installing a ceiling fan mounting bracket – The first thing you want to do is install the new mounting bracket onto the electrical box. This mounting bracket is what will actually hold the new fan.

6. Use the working hook – Because of the weight of a ceiling fan motor, the manufactures are well aware that you can’t hold the ceiling fan motor in one hand and secure the wiring with the other. So they’ve made something that’s called a “working hook”, which allows you to hang the fan motor on the hook while you are assembling the wiring.

7. Matching and securing the wires – In the step you will secure the wiring using the proper color codes. In the US, the white wire will be the neutral, the black wire will be a hot or (power leg) and the copper or green wire will be the ground. Sometimes we’ll see a red wire which is considered a loop depending on how many light switches control a single light. Typically when you see this wire you have multiple light switches within one configuration. Just make sure to follow the wiring exactly as you remove the old fixture and you shouldn’t have a problem.

8. Secure the fan motor – It’s time to secure the fan motor to the fan mounting bracket. You want to push all the wiring inside the electrical box, and then secure the fan motor to the mounting bracket with the mounting bolts that have been supplied.

9. Install fan blades – After mounting the fan motor and putting on the cover, it will be time to install the fan blades. One by one attach each blade and secure with the accompanying hardware. Make sure that each fan blade is installed properly because you do not want your fan to be unbalanced.

10. Check your work – Once you’ve completed the installation, it’s time to turn our back on to check your work. Make sure that your light switch is turned off, and go out and turn your break your back on, and when you return to the room turn your light switch on and make sure your fan works properly as well as your lights.

Installing a ceiling fan is not as difficult as one may think. The biggest intimidation is when a person thinks about working with electricity. As long as your electricity is off, it’s a matter of disassembling the current fixture and replacing it with a fan of your choice. Follow these steps closely and you will see that once your ceiling fan has been installed, you’ll be able to enjoy the new cool breeze, as well as the fact that you performed the installation.

When looking to recognize employee contributions or an outstanding achievement on the soccer field, crystal awards can certainly add an extra touch of class to ceremony. When comparing crystal awards, make sure the award is actually crystal and not glass or synthetic material, such as Lucite. It is actually easy to tell if you have a glass or crystal award.

There are about five major differences between crystal awards and awards made of lesser quality material. Crystal contains dense metals, so it will be heavier than glass or Lucite. Compare crystal to a piece of glass that’s the similar size – the crystal should be noticeably heavier.

Another way to tell if it is glass or the real thing is to check its resonance. Tap a piece of crystal and it will emit a high pitched tone while a glass or Lucite plaque will just sound like a low pitched kludge. There should be a slight timbre in the tone of the crystal piece.

Crystal and glass also refract light differently. Hold a crystal up to the light and it should look fairly clear, but it should also show a rainbow prism when held at certain angles to the light. Glass might also have a prism effect, but clear glass will have a slightly green or yellow tint when the light passes through.

Carefully examine the edges and angles of a crystal plaque. A crystal will have smooth, rounded edges and cuts, while a glass piece will have sharp-angled edges and corners. This is due to the fact the glass is much easier to work with, and is less expensive, so breakage and defects are more acceptable in the manufacturing process. Crystal materials are much more precious.

Again, because glass is easier to work with than crystal, the crystal award tends to be thicker and sturdier when compared with the glass version. If the award feels flimsy and weak, it is most likely glass or something other than crystal. If it feels a little thicker and heavier than it is most likely the real thing.

When determining if an award is made from crystal or glass it is important to remember that the rules above are just guidelines. Make sure to check all of the rules when comparison shopping. Glass and crystal are difficult to tell apart at first glance, but keep these rules in mind and it will be nearly impossible to mistake glass for a crystal.

Solar panel systems have a bright future in the roofing industry and for home and building owners alike. Solar panels, also known as solar photovoltaic panels are excellent tools for reducing monthly electric bills, providing clean power, lowering dependence on traditional fossil fuels, and adding value to a home or building. Installing rooftop solar panels is one of the best ways to increase the value of a home or building. And, not to mention the fact that federal legislation extended a 30% tax credit for commercial and residential solar panel installations.

The following “7 Steps to Installing Solar Panels” can be used to guide both commercial and residential customers through the solar panel shopping and installation process, and help make it as smooth and easy as possible.

1. Make your home more energy efficient.

Before you begin the solar installation process you first need to examine the energy efficiency of your home. Adding solar photovoltaic panels to a home with poor energy efficiency is not going to provide the results you expected. In some states to be applicable for the tax credit your home needs to have an energy audit performed before the solar panel system is installed, making your home’s energy efficiency paramount. Here are some tips to make your home more energy efficient:

* Upgrade or replace windows

* Well insulate walls and attic

* Replace inefficient hot water heaters and/or furnaces

* Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs

2. Evaluate the solar site or roof.

Ask yourself a few questions: Is the roof strong enough to support the panels? Is the available space large enough to hold the panels? Does the roof offer southern exposure? And most important, does your roof receive enough sun light? Solar panels are recommended to receive full sun exposure between 9am and 3pm in order for them to be the most effective.

3. Get competitive bids.

Solar panels are a big investment, but done correctly they can provide a significant return and increase the value of a building or home. Shop around a little and find the best price. But be aware; don’t just look for the cheapest price. Find a well established retailer and installer with a strong track record. Educate yourself and ask the right questions, because sometimes a higher costing solar system might be the better option, and in the long run provide a higher return on your investment.

4. Research the cost.

Solar photovoltaic panels vary in cost, which is usually determined by the size measured in Watts, the actual dimensions, the brand, the longevity, the warranty, and any certifications the solar panel might have. As solar systems increase in size so does the price. Expect to pay approximately double for a solar system of double the watts.

It is probably a good idea to receive multiple quotes, and if there are large differences inquire why. And, as mentioned before, don’t choose your solar panels based solely on price; make sure it will supply enough energy to fit your needs.

5. Determine the required size and Watts.

To begin, study your electricity bill. It will provide you with a lot of useful information to estimate your energy needs. Find out how many kilowatt hours (kWh) you use per day, month and year. When sunlight is optimal, a 100 Watt panel will generate 100 Watts of electricity per hour. Most homes electricity needs can be fulfilled with a solar system between 1 to 5 kilowatts or 1,000-5,000 Watts. And in general, 1 square foot of solar photovoltaic panels in bright sunlight yields 10 Watts, but that can vary depending on the type. Ultimately, when determining the required size of solar panels be sure that they will supply enough electricity to meet or exceed your needs.

6. Choose the Solar Panel Type.

There are 3 main types of solar photovoltaic panels that are available to choose from and vary in efficiencies.

* Mono-crystalline panels are essentially one large solar cell. They are smaller than the polycrystalline panels.

* Poly-crystalline panels are comprised of many small cells grouped together which produce a little less efficiency than the mono-crystalline panels, and are potentially available for a lesser cost.

* Amorphous (or thin-film) panels are larger in size and require more space than the other panels. However, there are other significant benefits, such as a lower cost, versatility, flexibility and greater efficiencies in the Midwest.

It should be noted that efficiency only addresses the amount of light that is created on bright sunny days. The thin film panels have the unique ability to produce watts in low light and overcast conditions, therefore increasing its yield of watts over the same time for the other panels in less than optimal climates like the Midwest. Side by side comparisons in the desert reveal one thing, but side by side comparison in an area that only has 4.2 hours of sunlight on average daily, the thin film provides a distinct advantage.

One must also consider that the framework required to mount the panel type vs. the thin film can add cost and future maintenance.

As there are different types of solar photovoltaic panel roofing systems available, there are also different types of installation methods, such as a grid-tied system, which offers the ability to have more solar photovoltaic panels added at a later date.

7. Review the quote and solar system specifications.

Read the fine print and be clear on all aspects of the new solar panel system. Here are specific points to review:

* Total Cost – Labor, installation and equipment.

* Projected savings – how many years will it take to pay itself off?

* Operational and maintenance costs

* Required permit costs, if any

* Solar system make and model – is it a trustworthy brand?

* Taxes

* Tax credits – 30% federal tax credit with no cap.

Solar Patio lights can be a inexpensive way to enhance safety and beautify your patio. Designing a layout and installing them can be done quite easily. Here are simple steps to installing solar patio lights.

Solar Patio lights provide light to your patio area. They have two purposes: to provide safety and to beautify your patio. Since solar patio lights generate their energy from the sun, they do not negatively affect the environment while adding a sense of warmth and light to your homes. There are also very economical to operate.

Here is a simple and important consideration many people forget when installing solar patio lights:

They must be positioned and installed in places where they can be properly exposed to both the sun during the day and to provide adequate illumination at night.

Here are simple steps on how to properly install solar patio lights.

Step 1: Identify areas that need lighting

These are areas with small steps and dark corners or edges that are not easily seen in the dark. If left unlit, they could result trip or fall accidents that may range from minor-severe.

These areas are considered “critical areas.”

Step 2: Mark the identified areas using a garden stake.

Step 3: Make sure that the space or location between each additional patio light is evenly measured.

Find the position for your pole-mounted solar lights on patio deck posts (or exterior wall). The spots must be properly marked too.

Step 4: The marked area must be exposed to sunlight throughout the day

This is very important since solar patio lights need the rays of the sun in order to operate in the evening. Leaving them hidden from sunshine promises a dark patio all throughout the night.

If there is foliage that blocks that sun’s powerful rays, make sure that you trim the area.

If you don’t want to cut them, you can move the garden stake markers to a more exposed area.

You may also move the solar light fixture to the other side of the post (if it’s pole-mounted).

Step 5: Dig a hole where the marker is located

This is where you will bury one half of the patio light’s stake. Therefore, the whole must be deep.

Set it deep enough into the hole.

Hold the stake in place as you fill the hole with soil again.

When you’re done back filling it with soil, tamp it with your foot. After that add more soil and tamp it once again. This will ensure you that the lighting stake is firmly in place.

Step 6: Properly hold the pole-mounted fixture in its place, against the post or a wall.

Use a pencil to mark the screw holes.

Pre-drill the holes.

Use an electric drill screwdriver to screw the bracket into place.

Connect the fixture to the bracket and tighten it well.

Installing solar patio lights is quite easy and anybody can do it. Make sure you follow the guidelines mentioned here. You may also install an alarm system or a motion detector device to further improve the safety and security of your home. These devices should be able to aid you in deterring intruders while adding beauty to your house in the process.

For more information on securing the outside of your house you can go here to: solar motion light solar motion light. Also, here is where you can learn more about Outdoor Flood Light which are very popular for securing a home.

LED Strip Lights are quickly replacing older incandescent lights as the effects lighting of choice for business and homeowners who want to stylishly rethink the way they light their interiors without compromising on quality. Installing them now will mean that you save up to 90 per cent on the running cost of your lighting, which, with large scale installations like those used in pubs, clubs, restaurants and hotels, is very important. What you will find is that each diode on an the strip will use about a tenth of the wattage as an equivalent incandescent, which means you will be able to run your lighting very affordably. They also last considerably longer, up to 20 times longer in fact, with the average life span of an LED being anywhere between 30,000 and 50,000 hours.

One of the defining features of LED Strip Lights is their ease of use. They are made with a user friendly ethos in mind, which makes them incredibly easy to install. However, there are a few things worth considering before you buy. This article will give some practical advice on ordering LED Strip lights for the first time and getting started.

Take Measurements

All LED Strip Lights are made to measure. As such, it is a good idea to measure the space in which you intend to install them. This will make sure you get the right length of LED Strip necessary for the project.

Check the Load

Determine the power requirement of the LED Strip Lights. This is a variable figure, depending on the length of the light strip, the number of LEDs per strip and the size of the LEDs. The manufacturer should provide all the specifications you need to help you work out what sort of power source you will need. Always check the specifications of the strip light controller. The controller dictates the performance of the strip light it is connected to. If you have a 100W controller and your strip light performs at 5W per metre, then you will be able to run 20 metres of that particular strip light on a single controller. If you need more then you can use an amplifier to boost the signal of the controller.

Modifications

Sometimes you might find you have to cut your LED Strips. Thankfully, if they are the wrong size, you won’t have to send them back. These lights are fully customizable and cutting them is very straightforward. They have small cutting points along their length which can be cut with a good pair of scissors, so as not to damage the circuit board. Always make sure you cut the LED Strip at the end away from the transformer. Once they are cut they are ready to go!

Mounting

LED Strip Lights don’t usually need any mounting. You will find that most come provided with a 3M high quality adhesive backing which means they can be stuck straight down to a surface.

Hooking up to the power

These Lights run straight off the mains power through a 12V transformer, similar to the ones you find on laptop chargers. This simply steps the voltage down from the 240V mains power to 12V for the LED Strip. Your manufacturer will provide you with all the necessary connector leads to get you going, which usually includes a length of wire that connects the LED Strip to the transformer and a power cable connecting the transformer to the socket. Always find out how long the connector cables are before you begin your project. If they aren’t long enough you can always use an extension lead.

Peter Jenny is an experienced writer with a Masters Degree in Operations Management. Peter has a wealth of experience in the lighting industry and is keen to share his knowledge about upcoming products and new discussions around LED lighting. He is currently working as a Content Manager at Wholesale LED Lights, UK.

If you have a set of Christmas Tree Lights that are giving you problems and not working you will have to do something called troubleshooting. Most sets of Christmas lights can be repaired easily, but sometimes it will be just better to replace the strand of lights. There are also two different types of Christmas Tree Lights, you will have two strand and three strand wires. The lights with the two strand wires will all go out when one bulb goes bad compared to the lights with the three strand wire.

Most of the time the fuse or one of the bulbs has gone bad causing your set of lights to partially work or even not work at all. Replacement Christmas light bulbs and fuses will usually be included with the packaging when you bought them. Most of the time there will be a small clear plastic bag that is taped to the end of the light string near the plug and inside this bag you will find a few extra fuses and bulbs. Some brands will also include a flasher bulb so you can have your lights flash.

How To Replace The Christmas Tree Light Plug Fuse

On the plug of your lights you will have a fuse that will protect the circuit if it overloads or there is a power surge. Each brand of Christmas lights is different but most of the time you will have to use a small screwdriver and pop out a little tab. Once you pop the tab open on the plug that is on the end of the light string you will be able to remove the fuse. The fuse will just fall out if you turn the plug upside down so that the fuse opening is facing towards the ground.

Once you have removed the old fuse you will want to take your new fuse/s and slide them into the opening. Now that the new fuses are in place you will want to shut the tab on the plug. If you have replaced the fuse on your light string and your lights still are not working you may want to make sure the outlet you have them plugged into has power. You can test this by plugging in a string of lights that you know work.

How To Replace Bad Christmas Light Bulbs

When you have found out what bulb/s are bad in your string of Christmas lights or Pre Lit Tree you will now need to replace the bulb. The first thing you will need to do is to make sure that the lights are unplugged from the electrical outlet to make sure you do not get shocked. Once you are certain they have been unplugged you can remove the light bulb from the strand using a Christmas Light Bulb Puller or you can gently pull on the light bulb base and slowly wiggle it out. If you have a small Flathead screwdriver you can also take it and catch the edge of the plastic that holds the bulb into place and gentle pry it out.

Once you have removed the bulb/s that are bad you can either insert a flasher bulb in its place to make you lights blink or you can insert a new colored or white bulb depending on what will match your light string. To make sure that you are installing the new bulb correctly you will want to make sure that the two wires on the side of the plastic bulb casing are aligned with the metal inside of the light bulb socket. This will ensure that your bulb makes a good connection with the light socket so the bulb will light up when the strand has power. When you have all of replacement bulbs in place you can now test the strand of Christmas Tree Lights by plugging them back into the power source. If after you plug them in they still don’t work you should check your fuse and se if you missed a bulb. On three strand light sets the other lights should be lit and then just he bubs that are bad will not be lit making it way easier to identify which ones you will have to replace.

How To Make Your Christmas Lights Flash

If you have a set of multi-colored or white lights and they do not blink or flash you can replace one of the bulbs with a flasher bulb. Most Christmas Trees and light sets come with a flasher bulb that can be inserted into any one of the bulb sockets and then the strand will blink. You can identify a flasher bulb because they will be clear with a small dab of red paint towards the tip of he bulb. You will fist have to unplug the string of lights from the outlet. Once the lights are unplugged you can pull out one of the bulbs and then insert the flasher bulb. Once you have replaced the bulb with the flasher you can plug the lights back in and in a few minutes the lights should begin to flash. If you want the lights to flash more you could also add a second flasher bulb in the strand.

How To Use A Christmas Light Bulb Tester

If you have no idea if your lights are bad or not you can use something they sell call a Christmas Tree Light Bulb Tester which is basically a plastic mold with a 9V battery inside. On top of this small tester will be a spot where you stick in the light bulb that you think is bad. If the light bulb is bad the bulb will not light up. If the bulb is still good you will see it light up because inside of the bulb tester is the 9V battery that will provide the power to do so. Christmas light bulb testers are a cost effective way to find and replace all the bad lights in your strand and will save you lots of time as well.

Anything that you install outdoors can be very difficult to clean because of too much exposure to dirt, dust, and other natural elements that indoor installations are not exposed to. This is the reason why many people find it hard to clean their outdoor lighting. This neglect often leads to dirty, damaged, or broken lighting fixtures. Instead of making your outdoor space brighter and more attractive, broken and useless outdoor lights only become eye sores that you just want to get rid of.

Installing outdoor lighting is not cheap, that is why you should take care of your outdoor lights by cleaning it regularly. Here are some tips that you can use if you are planning to clean your outdoor lighting.

o	Unplug the lighting fixture from the electrical outlet or turn it off. You do not want to get electrocuted cleaning outdoor lights.

o	Prepare a ladder. You might have some really high outdoor lights that you will not be able to reach without the aid of a ladder. Be careful, though. Make sure that the ladder is secured firmly before climbing it unless you want a broken neck.

o	The bulb is always encased in grills, globes, or other housings. Remove the housing first. You might need screwdrivers to do this. Once you have taken off the housing, remove the bulb by just turning it counter clockwise. If you are on a ladder, climb down and proceed to cleaning the parts.

o	You need to use warm water with dish washing soap to wash all the parts except the light bulb. Soak all the parts into the water with soap and leave them.

o	Prepare another bucket of water with soap. You will use this for cleaning the parts that you could not disassemble. Use a sponge and soak it into the soapy water and use it to wipe the other parts.

o	Rinse everything – fixed and loose parts with clean water. Wipe them with dry clean cloth or let them try if the weather permits.

o	To make your outdoor lights look shiny and brand new, you can apply wax on the parts that are made of metal or a special cleaner for glass parts.

o	If the light bulb is still working, clean it using a damp cloth. But if it is not working anymore, just replace it with a brand new one.

o	Finally, put everything back properly and after only a few hours, your outdoor lights will be illuminating your outdoor space again.

John has a lot of experience with outdoor lighting. He has written many articles on the subject, including articles on patio umbrella lights and outdoor Christmas rope lights.

Electric generators are power converters that transform heat energy to electric energy. The theory behind a generator is that difference of a magnetic field over a loop of wire generates a current throughout the wire. You could build an electric generator making use of some available parts.

Step #1

Know the energy source that you like to convert to electric energy. You could use, for instance, a bicycle, water wheel or practically anything with a rotating pin.

Step #2

Loop a length of cable to make a reasonable sized coil with the 2 wire ends available. The bigger the count of turns in the coil, the more electric energy you could generate.

Step #3

Connect the loop to the energy source. You should be able to tie the loop end to end, without twisting the 2 connecting cables each other. You could do this by connecting a wire to the rotating pin and the other wire to the conducting brush that keeps contact with a 2nd conductor.

Step #4

Make sure that you adequately support the coil and that it is out of the way of any maneuvering parts of the source of energy. This step might need reinforcing the coil with plastic or any light material.

Step #5

Attach the magnets on the coil so that the loop could freely rotate between them. Also, ensure that you attach the magnets to maximize the strength of the field. For instance, you could do this by making the south part of a magnet face the north part of another.

Step #6

Attach the 2 conductors on the source of energy to a battery, circuit or device, as needed. Like Step #3, this step might need some mechanical and electrical ingenuity.

Step #7

Turn on your source of energy. This might be as easy as getting on the bicycle and stepping on the pedals.

Tips

The electric voltage magnitude that you generate from your generator depends on factors as the number and size of turns in the coil, the strength of magnetic field, the speed of coil rotation and the electrical connections quality.

This kind of generator generates AC or Alternating Current electricity at an occurrence that is determined by the rotation rate of the loop.

Warnings

Ensure that the wire connections in Steps #3 and Step #6 don’t make any short circuit. That’s, there must be no electrical relation between the 2 wire ends, except the loop. This is the difficult part of the design.

You could make any voltage you desire, depending on how you create the generator. So, you should be careful as electricity could be deadly or lethal. Do not connect your power generator to any device or battery until you are sure of both the voltage level that you’ll produce and whether you should design any circuitry as a line.

You might have noticed video clips of Christmas lights which are synchronized to music. If you’d like your own personal lights to flash to the track of your most loved songs, this is exactly how to make it happen.

A channel is actually a system of lights which can be managed separately. For instance, just one bush in the lawn can be a channel. Every one of the lights inside a channel work as a system (you can not blink a unique bulb). 32 to 64 channels is an effective length to begin with.

Build your light inventory. The ideal time to purchase lights is the day right after Christmas. Often you will discover lighting that was usually listed about 2 dollars a string drop to 50 cents. Take a look at any retail, hardware or drug store to find bargains.

Get yourself a control system. You will require hardware that connects to the computer. You can purchase a system entirely built, as a kit, or simply a complete do-it-yourself system.

A completely built system works right from the box. It’ll cost you approximately 20 – 25 dollars for each channel. It may be obtained through online distributors. Select this method if you don’t desire to do any kind of electric work (particularly soldering.)

A kit costs roughly 15 dollars for each channel. You’ll find it very similar to the completely built product minus the housing. Since it is quite simple to put an electronics board into the housing, this specific option can help you save money. A few distributors sell all the things you require to build the control system, which includes the bare circuit board including parts. If you’re prepared to solder a bit, check it out.

The do-it-yourself program features a surprisingly low charge of 5 dollars for each channel. The cost depends upon just how much you really perform yourself. A system includes a controller, which will communicate with your computer, as well as solid state relays (SSRs) that basically swap the lights. SSRs can be purchased or produced by you. Using a do-it-yourself option, you actually will invest a lot of time producing your hardware; however the cost benefits could make up for it. You likewise have complete customization of the hardware, and can repair issues very easily. Obtain assistance. This will be an extremely large and complex project, and frequently can feel mind-boggling if you are just starting out. You’ll be able to subscribe to forums online that will offer solutions and support.

Acquire software. If you purchase commercial items, they’ve got software obtainable for purchase. Additionally there is free software readily available for Do-It-Yourself systems (view the links portion). In case you are driven, you might wish to hand-code software within nearly every main programming language (typically not for pre-built products, as the majority of the protocols tend to be closed-source).

Plan the display. Plan the specific outdoors part of the display. Typical components to add are:

Mini lighting or perhaps net lights for landscaping

Icicle lights or maybe c-series lights for the roof

Tiny Trees: These are typically two to three foot high trees, usually created from tomato cages covered with lights of 1 or several colored lights. They’re organized inside a line or perhaps a triangle and therefore are very beneficial within an animated display.

Large Trees: These generally are made up of a huge pole with lights stretching from the top to a big ring around the base. Just as before, it is quite beneficial in animation.

Wire frames: Metal structures with lights fastened.

Blow molds: Sculpted plastic structures that are lighted.

C9 Lights on the yard’s perimeter

Lighted angels, trees, animals, etc. bought from the retailer.

Program the display. This is the actual time consuming portion! Choose music you will be synchronizing to, and then begin programming on the time grid (within your program). Never try to perform all the things at the same time. This can most likely take a month or two or more, based upon the length of the show and just how many channels you’ve got. Exactly how to get this done differs with the software program you select.

Allow them to listen to you. Utilize a method that can provide magnificent sound but maintain the peace. Audio speakers producing exactly the same music continuously will drive your neighbors insane. In most all cases you will have to transmit over an FM frequency.

Do you have enough juice? Ensure your house offers sufficient exterior electrical power to operate the lights. An average mini light string pulls approximately 1/3 amp. Speaking of electricity, computerizing the display should offer a decrease in your electric bill compared to a static display. The reason being not every light is on at the same time. Talk to your electrician about the amount of electricity you might need.

Set up and test everything. Make sure you have everything set up and tested before December 1st!

Announce your display. Place a sign on your lawn. Create an online site. Put your own display on the web listing it with websites just like the Tacky Light Tour. Notify your friends and family about the display and the website. Use social networking to draw people to your site. Carrying out all of this work is not worthwhile if no one sees display. You don’t need to go to extreme conditions, however make certain folks know about your display.

Take care of your display. Check everything each morning on your display. Restore and replace broken lights or parts of display that may have been damaged due to weather or vandals. Ensure everything is ready to operate the following evening.
